Is this only scary to me??

So Im looking for collision parts due to my busted up front end. I seriously need to replace the front corner lenses and a couple other random parts, but they all seem to obsolete!! And I start to think, what other parts are obsolete? Taillights, bumper covers, front ends, headlights? Are all these parts soon to be obsolete, if not already? Fordpartsnetwork where I get many parts online doesnt even list the 88 Tbird under the collision section. So basically Id be driving a car and the only way to replace an broken/damaged collision parts would be a junk yard which are probably not in any better condition such as lights for example. Any ideas where to get some NEW parts such as the ones I listed. If finding normal parts such as these turns out to be this much of a hassle, I think I will be on the market for that 03-04 Cobra Ive been thinking about. Ideas??

specally since some of are cars are more like 15 to 20. 20 seems to be the hot spot for cars at my junkyards.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

this is one of the top reasons I got a Mustang, sick of having a junkyard be the only source of parts for our cars

go for the 03-04 cobra if its not going to strap you down. if i wasnt getting married, having another kid and saveing for a house id have one allready. keep the tbird for the track though ;)

The 03-04 wont strap me down at all, now if I mod it that would be a different story. But the most I would do to it would be exhaust, cold air kit, and probably a smaller pulley with SCT chip. That alone would get the thing into the 11s no prob. Id def keep the Tbird, I took to get an estimate on the paint/body work today, and ouch but it'll be worth it. Heres a hint: boyd roush paint scheme...

On a positive note I did find some new corner lenses at a local dealer, he said he listed them and hopefully they wont come back saying theyre obsolete.

Hello mustangs, even if ford doesnt offer it, 5.0resto and many other aftermarket companies have picked up that market...

Exception to the rule......and besides you were refering to parts obsoleted by Ford anyway..not things picked up by an aftermarket supplier, different story.

Besides, I'm not going to let ease of parts availablility determine what I drive and modify...

Actually I was refering to ANY source of parts, whether it be aftermarket or dealer, I never specified.

I simply brought up the fact that if the car was to be involved in an accident(such as in my case), how would I replace the parts if they were not available new? I guess I could go to the junkyard for such things as headlights, taillights, etc, but from what Ive seen the condition of those parts is poor and the availability of those parts is declining on a daily basis. If you are forced to find new parts you may need to think about that. Now I guess I could be satisfied by putting junk on my car, but I wouldnt be satisfied. Im just looking at this from a logical viewpoint. Suppose the insurance would cover it, how could they if the parts dont exist? So is it worth it to have collision on a vehicle when they will most likely total the vehicle due to its low value? Would it then be wise to drop thousands of dollars of modifications into a vehicle? Just brainstorming...

This was the case with my Mark VII. I had to find the parts my self the first time it washiznit, side swiped by a garbage truck. I walked away from the auto body shop with a $1100 check. That was the difference in the price of the parts they quoted and what I got from the salvage yard.

Yes all for the Mark VII parts ar discontinued also.

Ah, i love my bird and could not bring myself to own a mustang.
As for parts availability,i have quite a few parts in my basp00get from my last bird that i sed(do to rust) and if i need something, ebay or sites like this one will come through for me(they always do).
You can't let parts availability dictate weather you own/drive a certain type of vehicle.
If you like the car that much you will find and pay for the parts to fix it(believe me i tried with my last bird).
Sometimes i worry about the what if's but if that were truly the case i wouldn't own my 75 or my 87 as they are both very hard to find parts for(especially the 75),honestly do you guys know how hard it is to find parts for a 75 cougar?
It took me 3 months to locate a steering column collar(part that holds the column shifter)but i like the car that much that i took the time and effort to find one,100 dollars later i found an NOS part and away i went.
I guess when it comes to my rides i drive what i love and i love what i drive!
Guess that about sums it up.

man, its totally a thing of preforance. finding parts is more of an annoyance than anything as far as im concerned. the tbirds are pretty much worthless but at the same time cheep. i think they are very nice looking and are on the side of being different. if the car gets wrecked and you put it through insurance chances are they are gonna total it. you can always buy them back from the insurance company for practically nothing and fix them if they are worth it. low cost car leaves alot of room for aftermarket money. my car hasnt cost me anything for the most part. i havnt invested anything performance wise either.

like i said though. if i wasnt saving money for the house, kids, blah, blah...i wouldnt hesitate to pick up a low mile 03 cobra. id actually go for a mystichrome cobra and either get the anderson blower setup (600 hp-ish) or a kenn bell twinscrew. its just too much of a monthly commitment to spend on something thats not going to appreciate in value.

its just too exotic and expensive to put my disposable income into to still be living in an appartment :(

if i were you man, and could handle it id go for it. ive driven one stock 03 and one with a few mods...chip/tune, pully, exaust...etc, small mods like that and it was a night and day differance. they respond so well to that kind of stuff. even a stock one would be the holy grail of cars for me...

that would be one shagy paint job on the tbird though...

Im not saying that I do not want to own/drive my car, Ive just hit a reality check since Im now forced to buy collision parts. I love my car also, shyt its the first car Ive owned. Im basically torn between continuing to sink money into my existing car or buying an 03-04 Cobra. The reason Ive been thinking about this is several reasons:

A friend of mine was just involved in a somewhat minimal accident and the insurance company totaled the vehicle. He had several thousand dollars in mods on the vehicle. They would have given him a couple grand and took his car. He decided to keep the car and part it out, and try to get some of his money back.

I was just involved in a very small accident which is turning out to be pretty expensive, and frustrating due to lack of new parts.

I am under new employment and actually have a much larger budget to play with but still want to spend money wisely and invest in something that I can potentially get back out if needed.

Anyway, Im not trying to offend anyone lol, Im just sharing my current "sitiation"..

Shame, unfortunately I will also be living in an apartment, but that is mainly due to the fact that my location is temporary(6 months). Id like to buy a house, but it helps to know where your going to live lol.
