Door Latches - HELP!!!

I've attached a picture here. I think my driver door latch is wacked. It always closed in a clunky fashion relative to the passenger side. The two DO NOT look the same. The driver side appears to be missing or the upper portion of the latch is out of location or sheared off. Please see pic and comment. Thanks in advance.

Looks like the piece is there.....just pushed all the way up.  Gonna have to dig it out.  Time, patience, and some wd-40 or equivalent will be your allies.....

Are your door strikers good, too? Sometimes the lack of plastic on them in time makes opening and closing a little more louder.

BTW, I had a 1988 T-Bird Sport way back when. I found out that it was totalled shortly after trading it in. It still has the ignition switch recall to date.

Special thanx to EricCoolCats for showing me to this site.

I can get those things by the pound at the big yard I go to.Maybe I should start collecting more of the parts we rarely think about.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it was in there. Needed to be rotated down. I assume it's just age and gunk preventing it from working perfect. I doused it with WD and reinstalled, seems to be working better but yes, the plastic on the catch is gone. Wrecking yard on Thursday after work. Probably grab a latch or two along with come catches with plastic. Cheers, always good help here.

I think I will start stock piling parts like latches, hinges, etc.Stuff we generally take for granted until we have a problem, and these parts aren't getting any easier to find in nice shape.....especially up North where rust rules.

guessing hood hinges and latches and such would be a good stock supply too.
Oh yea.... charcoal canister brackets never survive up north either.

They're big heavy doors...shouldn't slam 'em very hard...if stuff isn't lined up right, or worn out, you'll have problems, just as sure as there is shiznit in a cat....
