cuple exhaust related q's

well when i put in my new aod tranny i also installed some bbk shorty headers, well they dont have a spot for the 02 sensors and the stock exhaust dont bolt up, which dont really matter  cuz im fixing that this weekend, my question is, can i drive the car and be ok without 02 sensors, also would it be wise to have the exhaust shop make my 02 sensors work in the new pipes like directly after the header and before the cats,  o the exhaust is gna consist of true dual no crossover pipe coming out infront of the rear tires

If the exhaust doesn't line up,and the O2 sensors are unhooked,why don't you just NOT drive it until you get the exhaust fixed?Starting it won't hurt it,but I wouldn't be driving it around town.

I just recently did the same thing, sans the headers. I hope you have a glass pack or something skinny like that, there simply isn't much room under there. My exhaust is a bit closer to the ground than I preferred, and I didn't have any cats to worry about :D

I have 40 series Flowmasters and they fit great in the spaces designed for the lers.My exhaust is also up to the chassis as designed,lot's of clearance.

Dragon57444,where did you locate the lers?Under the rear seat area of the underside of the car,there's gaping areas for lers.

You need a Mustang H-pipe and then you'll have to extend the oxygen sensor harness to reach the oxygen sensor bungs on the H-pipe. That's what most of us (including me) who run shorty headers do.

well i havent drove it except to test the tranny not evena half mile, but im gonna start making my custom exhaust this weekend, i just got my welder back, so im gna save some money  and doeverything my self, a custom h-pipe weld in 02 bungs an 2.5 pipe exiting in front of rear tires with no cats

Lol I need to learn more about this.... I just got 2.5 off of the stock manifolds with 12" glasspacks, it all fit fine. of course. But there are o2 sensors on these cars....i didnt know...where are they? on the manifold?

the o2s on your stock manifolds, and if you put header on you should make a new place for them

I've drove these cars for years without O2s hooked up, won't hurt anything, didn't even hurt the mileage.

i say install the sensors.Do it right the first time and you won't have to go back later and change it.Sometimes shortcuts cost more than just doing it the right way.If you're in a hurry,one can make a lot of bad decisions.Patience really can help.

k. and u have to MAKE a spot, as in cut a small hole in the side for the sensor to stick in?

You may need to buy some O2 bungs.You'd make a hole in the pipe and weld the bungs in for the O2 sensors to screw in to.Have you thought about just buying an H-Pipe?They can be found used for cheap,already have the s and O2 provisions,and are simply a bolt on to the headers.If you can find a complete Lincoln Mark VII at the salvage yard,they have the H-Pipe as well on them as the Mustangs have.I had a factory H-Pipe for a while with hollowed cats.Sounded nice with good lers.

if i get that stock hpipe will it clear my aod linkage, thats really my only concern with that
