manual vs. automatic

This has probably been answered before, i have not had any luck finding the answer though. I am buying a 87 turbocoupe  with a bad IHI. It is a manual car, but i found a turbo for a auto car. Will it work? If so what are the drawbacks? The only reason i ask because i can walk to this place and get it.

Two things.

1. Yes, of course. Your transmission isn't hooked up to your exhaust.

2. If you're not trolling, please hire someone else to put the new turbo on for you.

Good luck.

Sorry, I don't know what trolling is. Why would hire someone else to replace the turbo for me? I found one that is listed at junkyard for a auto. The listing does not show up if a pick manual. There must be difference, sorry to upset you sir.

The turbos are the same, they were just limited on the auto.

The auto-equipped TC's ('88 for sure, not so sure about '87) didn't have as much boost as the t5 cars. This was done so the POS A4LD would live a little longer.

This has jack-shiznit to do with the turbo though, it's in the eec, NOT the turbo, you can use that turbo with NO ill effects. The turbos are identical, it's the other stuff  that keeps the boost limited for the auto cars.

I don't trust junkyard part references....I've worked for a junkyard, when the owner tried to argue with me over a 351w not bolting to a T5 (from a Mustang, no less), I walked the hell out. lol

I would however check it out before using it, might be junk or else wore out.

Its from car-part.com they list junkyards all over the country, and one near me is listed. They are always pretty accurate.

Thanks everyone, I am in contact with this seller, he is not sure if the IHI's he has are any good. I am gonna run a compression test on the car before i go any farther, oil is coming out of everywhere on this car (dipstick). There is no supply line on the turbo currently so idk if that is the best thing for it!
