Power window motor February 17, 2010, 09:30:29 AM I have a 1984 Mercury Cougar with a power window problem. The motor runs but the window will not move up or down. Could this be the regulator? If so, where is the regulator located? Quote Selected
Power window motor Reply #1 – February 17, 2010, 10:38:43 AM If the motor is running and not moving I would bet it is the small nylon plugs in the motor. You can buy a repair kit at most of the parts places(atleast here you can), take the motor out remove all the broken pieces insert the new plugs grease it up and away you go. Quote Selected

If so, where is the regulator located?Get a rebuild kit for the gear box on the motor.Use a 1/2 or 3/4 inch hole saw to drill three holes at the dimples on the door panel. This is for access to the motor mounting bolts. Quote Selected
Power window motor Reply #4 – February 18, 2010, 02:11:11 PM While you have the door panel off, re-lub everything in there. The original grease will be hardened with age.I believe that nylon gear mechanism on the motor breaks if the window gets too hard to operate.You may want to re-lub the other door before it breaks. Power window motor Reply #5 – February 19, 2010, 12:22:20 AM or drill the dimples mentioned with a bit just big enough to fit a 10mm socket through the hole.from there, use a 1/4'' drive extenion / 1/4'' drive socket to get the motor bolts out. Quote Selected
