new year's progress January 27, 2010, 01:13:26 AM The garage is cleaned up and ready for action. All four tires are back on the ground, finally. New rear gears and speedo gear are in the car, front wheels are spaced properly after the suspension travel mods, so it's finally ready for a 4 corner alignment. I might even change the stance a bit, drop the front ~.5" lower than the rear.Driving it during the transition period (before the new motor) should be interesting, 410s are a big jump from 355s. The new motor is home from the machine shop (finally). I'm still trying to figure out the transmission, so in the end I may have to change the rear gears again. Next time, a professional is doing it. Pulling the pumpkin was not too bad, but getting it back in there solo was a PITA. On top of that, I probably spilled as much diff fluid as went in. I know most of you guys are V8 fans, but here's a pic anyway. This is a mock up of the motor. The short block is complete but the head isn't torqued. I may even drive it without a turbo for a while so as to get some things sorted, ie turbo controls, turbo, ecu, accessories. Quote Selected

new year's progress Reply #4 – January 27, 2010, 07:21:27 AM I've thought about a Folvo set-up myself, but in the end I would just have no place to put it :pWhich route did you go on the oiling? Internal or external? Some of us can see and appreciate engines with less than 8 cylinders, so keep us updated on the progress. Quote Selected

I think that the car will be real unique in the end. Are the Volvo headed 2.3's pretty good or just different? I'm kind of curious what sort of Hp gains one stands to benefit from. Quote Selected
new year's progress Reply #6 – January 27, 2010, 08:49:47 AM Nice work...keep us updated. I remember reading about the Volvo head swap in the past. Remind me, does it bolt right up or is there some extra work involved? Quote Selected

new year's progress Reply #10 – January 27, 2010, 04:12:22 PM I'm just about ready to complete the summary. Yes, the dreaded powerpoint presentation! Hopefully it will make things really easy to follow, as most of the changes are best explained visually. I'm documenting as I go, and it's been slow going.Regarding power and sound. There are a few running conversions. At least two different youtube videos, one of them the impressive Phil Marshall XR smoking tires on a dyno at Carlisle. Quote Selected

new year's progress Reply #13 – February 01, 2010, 11:13:12 PM Chuck, don't you have one of those boxy Volvos? Wouldn't a transplanting a ford shortblock be a possibility?Rancheronut, Ford did prototypes I think. Too bad they didn't do it.1Bad88tbird, thanksGumby, once we get our cars side by side, I'm hoping to convince you to do the head swap (if you haven't already by that time). Quote Selected

The car is my driver, and it's going to stay mostly unmolested. At least it's not going to get a drive-line swap.Ford did do a couple prototypes. The "problem" was it would have out-performed the 5.0. And we know that couldn't happen. Rivers would have started to flow backwards, and there'd be dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. Quote Selected
