Anyone thinking about a new 2011 305 hp Mustang V-6 swap ?

I have been reading about the new 2011 Mustang V-6 and everything looks great for a Fox T-Bird/Cougar swap.

That little engine appears to be lightweight and not very wide.

I keep dreaming of this combo in a 3200-3300 lb. 87-88 TC with the factory ABS, Electronic shocks, etc.?

I know a 5-speed factory TC gets 30 mpg, but it would be cool to have a 7,000 RPM all motor lightweight engine up front. And could it get 31-34 MPG  ??

Granted, it will take time before the 2011 Mustangs start showing up in salvage yards for swap material. Also,  I haven't read anything about Ford offering a crate version of this engine.

Your thoughts ??

Sounds like a great swap to me; as long as you are not scared by the electronics.

Yeah, I thought about the Taurus SHO.  There was one on display at the NMRA Finals last October in Bowling Green.

I wonder if Ford will sell that as a crate engine ?

Either engine would seem great on paper, but it will take a couple of years for D.I.Y. gearheads to get info on doing a swap like these. Thank God for message boards. :D

I'd love a new powerplant in one of the cars, but costwise it wouldn't be feasible for me, at least in my usual lower cost approach to the whole hobby.

Either of the choices would be great.

I'd like to see some miles on a new direct injected turbocharged platform before I'd sign up for it.  Components on that engine will be $$$$$.

I haven't thought about swapping in the V6...but the thought of swapping in the 5.0 when my current motor gives up has crossed my mind.  Although, like Chuck said, it would be cost prohibitive for me.

I'm thinking that since the Ecoboost is not yet available in a north-south configuration if you wanted to mount one in a RWD car you'd actually need two donors: The Ecoboost car for the Ecoboost stuff and a Mustang (which isn't even on sale yet) for the RWD-configured block. Big bucks just now.

Also, since no Ecoboosts currently come with a standard transmission you'd be stuck with an automatic (I'm fairly sure the Ecoboost ECU would be expecting one), and if the RWD 6-speed auto is not electrically compatible with the FWD 6-speed auto you might run into some serious ECU/transmission issues.

To further Carmen's comments we don't know if a east/west engine would even bolt up to the conventional stick bellhousing(E/W 3.8s won't) or if a flywheel would bolt up, as Ford has this habit of adding/subtracting amount of flywheel bolts...

Guessing the Ecoboost V6 will find it's way into the Stangs and there would be your swap package...

There is a guy building a 32' Ford with a 3.5 EcoBoost and its RWD so someone must have figured it out...

Got a link or is this hearsay?

To add to Tom and Carm,  throttle by wire components will also be needed as well as the ECU and wiring harness.....What's your plan for the fuel system, because running that throttle by wire with the ECU and it is going to look for a pump driver and a returnless system.

In 18 months, I'd find one wrecked in a yard and see how much they want for it.....

It was actually in a recent issue of Hot Rod (Mind you it was just a blurb with a small picture) either way their intention is to run an EcoBoost in it. I have tomorrow off so I'll see if I can find it and maybe scan it. :D

He's right I read about it in HR too...it was a '32 (I think) and it had the ecoboost motor alright.
