The steel core rubber gaskets are about the only ones that won't leak on a 302 oil pan.

It can be done I did it, but it's not easy, I pulled the steering rack for some extra clearance. watch that the fan doesn't go into the rad. the bolt that holds the pickup to the main, if I remember was a 9/16 nut. It's a blind and awkward job to do.

I went thought this, my answer is NO the oil pump and the pick up did not help them w/ the engine hoist the engine could only go so high w/ the trany attached and hitting the firewall. I wasted hours on this then I just pulled the motor. I did not have a lift, did this on my back apparently it is possible if you have a car lift.

I have the car sitting as high as it can on jackstands, it will be an easy job as long as I can locate a nut to hold the pickup tube.

Got a tree? Know anybody that has a come-along? ;)

Hell of a lot easier than doing it the hard way lol.

Wish I could make a road-trip, I'd bring my hoist, the door glass you need, and a few other little goodies. ;)
Truck would eat me alive in gas money though...

This is the reason my engine got rebuilt. I needed to pull the oil pan to replace the rear oil drain plug. I said screw it and pulled the motor and rebuilt it;)
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

He just put the motor in, have to wonder why he needs to fix the pump though?

extremely low budget build here, I dont have an engine hoist. The engine I am using was the one pulled from my cougar and was stripped of all useable parts to build its current engine.  since I only had the hoist for the one day I decided to put the engine and tranny together and drop it in rather than having a car less engine and engine/tranny sitting on the ground that I couldnt do anything with.  at the time I didnt have the money to put the parts needed into the crank case so in it went and was to be dealt with at a later time. this is why I need to pull the pan to install the oil pump drive and pick up tube. :D

Like I said earlier it can be done. you will be working blind.
