86 tbird 4x4 Reply #1 – January 17, 2010, 06:43:33 AM most will say "no"...But,I think it's your car and you need to do what you want to do with it.Not my thing at all.If you do go through with this,I'd like to see the process......so....take a lot of pics, and plan it out well. Quote Selected
buggmann Reply #2 – January 17, 2010, 06:50:10 AM well my wife thinks i should leave it like it is im not sure if i want to do it i mean i like the carit is just hard to find parts for i have had the car about 2 years and still cant find a door glass for itdue to it having a vent window in the door and i was also told when i got the car it was #12of about 500 made that year dont know how true and not sure how to find out but the 4x4 thing was a idea justnot sure about it yet Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #3 – January 17, 2010, 10:41:32 PM I think everyone's personal vision of what their fox should be is acceptable. I'd like to see it done. Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #4 – January 17, 2010, 11:12:50 PM I love how it tends to be on this site, that someone comes in here with a "crazy" idea like this and this is pretty much the popular reaction. I think the fact that we are inherently off the beaten path for after these cars no one else wants makes us more open-minded. Just a thought. Agreed! Make it what YOU want it, make it something that brings a smile to your face every time you hop in. As far as parts go, you might do well to stay tuned here and check around, they are certainly hard to find but we still find em :D Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #5 – January 18, 2010, 12:05:01 AM Wouldn't trading a set of standard doors for your vent window doors work?Discussions of using an Audi Quattro set up was discussed before, and this is something I would be more interested in doing. But a standard 4x4 set up would be interesting as well, I just wouldn't do it myself. Not to tell you not to, but when these ideas come about, I often think about the end result....such as when it comes time to sell. Would it be easier to sell as a 4x4, or as a regular car? buggmann Reply #6 – January 18, 2010, 12:43:27 AM well yes it would be easy to trade the doors out but you don't see many like mine that often out here and i like the vents as far as the 4x4 thing just not sure about it yet i still have to find a donor car or truck and as far as what to call it well its a car as it will not have a bed Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #7 – January 18, 2010, 05:17:53 AM You could also swap the internals of a non vent window setup into your vent doors. In fact... I bet you could just take the vent window out, Then install the full size glass onto the existing slider setup~Add "reg size" wipes and what not and be good to go. Quote Selected
buggmann Reply #8 – January 18, 2010, 06:17:20 AM i might be able to do that but that is not how the car was made i would just like to find the glass that goes in that door that is just to much work to put a full size door glass in that door Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #9 – January 18, 2010, 07:06:20 AM if worried about keeping it original for any reason id buy an extra set of doors..... non vent and swap em out and hang on to your vent doors if need be Quote Selected

Then when you do find the correct glass you can swap them back. Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #11 – January 18, 2010, 04:29:58 PM There's a salvage yard I go to that has one Fox Thunderbird with the vent windows. All glass is present. If you want to pay for the glass and shipping,we could probably work something out. Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #12 – January 18, 2010, 04:47:36 PM My opinion would be a "no" on the 4x4 thing. My opinion means nothing though because its your car and you have to do what you think is cool, not what the rest of us think. Why don't you find a 3rd gen Camaro to do this to? Those cars seem more worthy of that sort of transformation! j/k Mullett FTW! Quote Selected
86 tbird 4x4 Reply #13 – January 18, 2010, 04:50:24 PM Nope, leave the 3rd gen Camaros alone too, find a Firebird Quote Selected
buggmann Reply #14 – January 18, 2010, 04:57:48 PM the 3rd gen Camaros and Firebird well that might make a good 4x4 might look in to that and keep the bird the way it is but i would like to drop in a v8 i need more power Quote Selected
