Transmission noise

Hi,

I have an '85 T-Bird with a newly rebuilt tranny. Whenever I put it into Drive, I hear a hissing/sucking sound as I am pushing the accelerator, but no other symptoms. If I am using Overdrive, the hissing/sucking sound is gone. What could be causing this ?

Hissing from.................. underhood / undercar / underdash?

Got cruise control? Any vac hoses dangling under the dash near the brake pedal?
Death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

Could the linkage be maladjusted?

why do i suddenly think this is an hvac problem?

look directly above your gas pedal and i believe there is a silver vac actuated cansister there which should have a vac line attached to it.

i have no idea why this would be a symptom in od only unless the actual symptom occures at a certain percentage of gas applied.  If your actual meaning is that when you are at 75 or so percent gas pedal this happens,, then the hvac vac lines come into play at this point inside the dash.

go deeper into the gas pedal in "D" and let us know if you hear it then as well.  if so, it is an hvac issue.
