Sheesh...just find another back seat from someone parting out a Mark VII. They show up pretty frequently on both Mark VII messageboards.

I might just do that.. if nothing else, I don't really think my Bird would look/feel right minus a back seat. Just don't know what I'd be looking to spend on one.. and there are many other things I need to spend money on right now that are more important.

If you want to drive up to Alabama I have a number of back seats...you can HAVE one...but I won't ship it so you have to pick it up. On a bonus side I have probably 15 complete cars worth of Mark VII parts in storage containers out back so you could pick up any parts you might need...I'll make you a deal if you are driving up here

! I could probably use a bunch of stuff.. but I don't trust my light blue Bird to go that far until I replace the alternator. Gas money is also an issue, until I pay this guy off for the LSC. I'll have to see what happens with this other guy on the forum asking about buying my 351W and all the Ford parts over at my friend's house. Thanks, though. If I can figure something out soon I'll let you know. Alabama is not a trivial drive from 90 miles south of Tampa, unfortunately.

I can understand not wanting to ship something like a seat.. but is there a small part you might be willing to ship, if I can come up with the cash for it?

This thing really needs a relay for the air suspension.. it's the relay just to the right of and behind the master cylinder. According to the previous owner, he used to be able to wiggle the plug and get it to work again.. but now, nothing. I'm going to have a look at it because that's not the only case of something being loose on this car. (tried to change a fuse today and the fuse panel started pushing up behind the dash) But if I can't get it going again, I'll need a replacement. Yeah, I know, I heard it wasn't an expensive part to begin with.. but frankly, until this thing is paid off, I'm going to avoid putting any money into it I can avoid spending. I decided today I may replace the starter solenoid, because the screwdriver trick just annoys the out of me.. but between that and that relay, I don't really feel comfortable if I have to move it around in the yard.

It seems like the suspension is literally about an inch off the ground. I had to go under there today to pick up a socket I dropped, and.. ..

Of course, if you don't like shipping anything at all, even something the size of the relay, I can just wait. If I do manage to get up there somehow, I wouldn't be using the Mark anyway.

I'll ship anything except large hard to package/ship items(ie: Hood, fenders, doors, trunk lid, rear seat, etc)...other than that it's no problem...it's what I do. The reason for not shipping large items is that it is not worth the time given how long it takes to properly package something then the cost of materials if crated and shipping cost itself. The rest is no problem at all to ship...I do that every day ;)

If you can start your car at the solenoid with a screwdriver then your starter solenoid is likely not the culprit. The FIRST thing I would recommend is to replace the ignition switch in the column..not the key switch, the slider switch mounted under the trim with tamper proof torx bits. Those are notorious for going bad and I just replaced one of those in a Mark VII 3 days ago that wouldn't start by the key but would from the solenoid....those switches can be fire hazards so make sure you get a new one in there ;)

I'm gonna need to do some reading up on ignition replacement. Never done anything like that before. Not even sure what to do.. is this something I have to take up with Ford?

It's also something I'm not going to do until the car's paid for and the title is in my name. I don't mind doing stuff like washing it or cleaning out the interior or testing to see how far the paint is gone, (and it's definitely pretty bad) or even replacing that relay with a used one just to get the car off the ground, but I'm not going to mess with the ignition in case this falls through and the car goes back to the guy.

OK, possible stupid question time:

Is there a harmless way I can jump this relay somehow and get the bags to inflate? This thing is sitting so close to the ground I can't even slip my fingers between the quarter panel and the front tires.

Oh, and for svopaul: If you have an extra relay you're willing to part with and ship, please let me know how much it will set me back.

As for other details sorta relating to the car.. I've cleaned it up quite a bit. Looks like someone painted the dull gray over the original sandstone, because there's one spot where the gray is chipping off and you can see the intact sandstone underneath it. As far as paying for it, I've put the watch up for auction.. and I've made some noise in the engine-selling department, but no luck so far. A friend is coming over today to help work on the '88, so we'll probably discuss selling it locally some more. I'm just so wound up over the possibility of not being able to pay for this thing if these sales don't go well. My third selling option (my credit-selling operation in Star Wars Galaxies) has been devalued pretty badly by another collapse in credit prices. Chinese players.

To raise the car.
1. turn off the air ride.
2. dissconnect the computer harness.
3. run a power lead to pins 9-12 this will open the valves for the air bags.
4. run a power lead to pin ? for the air pump.

I am not quite sure what pin starts the air pump.

Hmmm.. looks like I'm gonna need a Haynes for this car specifically, and soon.. or some diagrams from a website.

I see two plugs fulla wires going into the bottom of this thing. I'll detach it tomorrow and examine it closer. Is it labelled somehow which wire is which?

There should be small numbers next to the pins on the connector.

The pins are in the large connector with 2 rows of pins.

If only the offer of the job at the prison were a short-term thing.. my friend would want to train me to be a manager working under him, and he's about to get a promotion from what I gather.. so he'd want me around long-term if I took him up on it. But I don't know if being able to pay for stuff like EVTMs and parts is worth the increased possibility of being stabbed at work.
