Mark my words.. (caution, 56k'ers)

OK, sometimes I just hate Google.

I've been trying for the last couple hours to find a Mark VII site that has even a tiny fraction of the amount of info CoolCats has about our cars, and I'm drawin' a blank here. Google mainly gives me filler pages on wanna-be big websites, or ads for parts. I tried following through Lincoln Motorsport, but there's very little info there.. and their Lincoln Webring looks like it's centered around the Mark VIII.

I guess mainly that means that we're pretty spoiled here in the wealth of info that's been accumulated for us.. but it also means I'm having difficulty doing much research on this '88 Mark VII I'm looking at tomorrow. Any suggestions on sites?

This guy wants $1000 OBO for an '88 Mark. EDIT: Nevermind, it has LSC on the wheels and on the trunk.

The air suspension is damaged, but he had trouble explaining to me what was wrong with it. The back seat is also pretty much destroyed. However, the body's in pretty good condition from what we could see in the dark w/ flashlights. Only one rust spot found.. didn't see any other body damage. Aside from the back seat, the rest of the interior looked alright.

I'll hazard a guess that it's not in $1000 condition. I just have to figure out how far away from $1000 condition it's in. A friend is going to look at it tomorrow morning on his way to work, and I'm going to drive by there again during the daytime. Might take some pics. If this thing can be had within the amount of money I was about to accumulate for the possible SO rebuild or HO swap, I may put it into buying the Mark instead.

Man, I'm a total thread-w lately. Shawn, I'm blaming your thread-whoring for this. It's catching like a disease. :p

Here is one more that deals with things related to the mark series and other lincoln.

One more

You also have to remember most lincoln owners are not like fox owners. A bigger, better Lincoln comes along "Mark VIII" they pitch there old ones and buy new.

Yeah, makes sense. I hope at least the 2nd owners were somewhat more enthusiastic about their cars.

Very few Mark VII owners these days give a  about the Mark VIII, much less want to trade for one.  Very few Mark VIIs or VIIIs are owned by their original owner, most are bought fully depreciated and with the intentions of modifying them somehow.

I have them all, and I'd recommend http://www.lincolnsonline.com...for obvious reasons I guess.  I mean, I am the mod of the Mark VII forum there. :)

Were the production numbers on the Marks higher than t'birds and cougars? There are very few t'birds and cougars around me but there are two Marks just off my street.

One's in great shape driven by an old man who returns it into the garage after every use. No rust or damage to be seen. Paint is still in great shape from what i can tell the few times I've seen him driving it.

The other is a pile of rust, under the doors, quarters...I asked the guy if he'd sell it - $3500 he said, I said seeya.

The car looks fixable, but its a $1000?  Its not worth more than $500 unless the ABS and A/C works.

They made more Birdcats than Marks, but Lincolns usually get treated better because of their price tag, hence their current abundance. :)

How big a negative, price-wise, should the problem with the air suspension be? He couldn't adequately explain it to me last night.. so I'll have to ask for clarification today.

Have you started the car?  If the suspension pumps its minor.  If it doesn't, its minor + a bad compressor.  You can buy a complete system for $1100 or so, odds are you have $500 in parts to replace.  Well it could be a bad relay...

Basically I need more information.  How's that?
