If your engine bay wasnt so friggin' clean I'd bust your balls for not puttin a kit in it. :rollin: :beatyoass:

Maybe I should have spent money on the AOD instead of stuff to clean the engine bay every other week:rollin:

I just changed my trans fluid yesterday.  Stuck with the Dex/Merc.  Only holds 11 quarts with the new converter -- even with the cooler.  Changed it out about a year and a half ago.  It got sooty rather quickly.  The  filter had surface rust on it too.

VERY glad I changed it....

How the hell was the filter rusty??? You think you had moisture in your fluid or something?

+1.

I changed the fluid in my AOD this year for the first time in 4 years and the filter wasn't rusty. I drive the car maybe 1,000 miles a year if that much.

I haven't a clue.  Perhaps from sitting so long with things apart this past spring....

That had to do it. If the trans is closed up no moisture should get in.

The type f is great if changed regularly.  I was more referring to using the wrong dex/merc usually in combination with improperly set TV/not upgrading the TV retainer on the TB.

Wow... C4 and 3.73's.  What's that 3500 rpms at 60?  My car irritates me with 4.10's and an AOD, can't imagine no OD, but if you don't cruise at long distances then I guess it's not bad.

With 3.73s, P225/55/16 tires, and an AOD I *think* I'm turning about 2800 rpms at 70 mph. I *think* because I forget;)

Wow all this auto trans talk has got my head spinning.  Gues I got to relearn all this stuff, due to both mark vii's having auto's.  Makes me want to go give the old AODs a little pep talk!

You should definitely be at more like 80 with 2800 rpms. Now...of course it's tough because with our digi-dashes it could be +/- 200 rpms off what you actually think it is. :hick:  But I do know its at that fourth bar and not jumping either direction at 80. Not too bad 3.73s with the OD is still decent for the highway.

3.45'swith a 27" tall tire here.  70 MPH is right around 2000 RPM.  3.73's would make it about 2200.....

80 should be around 2500 with 3.73's.......  This is assuming a full lockup converter and the same 27 inch tall tires of course.

With 255/55-16's and 3.73's you should turn around 2600 @ 80 and 2300 @ 70....

www.clickclickracing.com Dude find a time when you're bored got like an hour and change or more to kill, and go to the AOD tech forum, dont even have to join just start reading old threads searching....I learned so much there, pretty awesome. You will get a real feel for how the things work! Great site.
