Thinking about picking up an '82 and did (now with pics)

I had a 255 in my '80. Definitely a no power engine (though not sure my 3.8 in the Cougar is much better!). Has the plastic coated timing chain teeth (if original), so I'd probably check into that and get that replaced right away befor it breaks and jumps time on you (ask me how I know). When we pulled mine to do a rebuild, the block showed considerable wear from the pistons abrading the block wall...there was actually a VERY evident "lip" at the top of each cylinder mostly on the outer side of the block. My car started out as a "little old lady" driver as well...can't vouch for the 1st 70K miles engine care, but I always changed oil every 2000-2500 miles. Mine also had a LOT of blow-by. It was enough that I ended up running a breather "downpipe" along the firewall to vent all the vapors out...PCV could not keep up.
In all, I rather like the looks of the car, and it REALLY looks MUCH improved if you put a decent set of rims on it with less backspacing...those fender flares can cover a decent size tire...gives it a MUCH improved "stance" and less grandma look! :)
Your's body looks good, and for $300, I'd still say it's worth it!
