Need help with my AOD

OK, I had to pull the motor to change the rear main and front pump seal. I got it all back together and cant remember how the transmission cable is routed from the throttle body, down to the ball on the other end. The car is stuck in low and I think that's the problem. I left it loose not knowing and I was told it must have zero movement. I can't picture how it was mounted beforehand!:hick:
Ooops it's an 88 tbird 5.0 sport.

I watched his video on setting up the trac-loc 8.8 while I was rebuilding my SC. They are pretty kick ass. I had no idea he was part of our crazy board. I've never been this close to a celebrity before.

well I watched the vid but for some reason my t-bird looks different. It has a big yellow bracket that acts as a fulcrum. This in turn has a rod that attaches to the transmission where the video shows the cable connecting directly to the transmission. Here is a pic, but it's hard to tell. I cant figure out how to reattach the actual cable, the end with the rubber boot on. Im so confused!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, you have a column shift which uses a slightly different TV cable. You should have a cable that goes from the throttle body to a bracket with two holes in it. That bolts the the two lower bellhousing bolts. The cable's spring loaded end faces down which will snap into the bellcrank (which in turn is hooked to the TV lever) that's shown in your photo. Once all points are attached you adjust the same as in the video clip. Hope that helps.

I also agree. If you ever rebuild that AOD I'd recommend Mr. Collins' videos. I just got a video on rebuilding the smallblock ford (I will not mention any names) and it makes you appreciate the production quality of Badshoe videos. Good camera angles, lighting and all the details. Best of luck.

badshoe, I see what you are talking about. So the TV cable itsself, on the boot end, points vertically?

That's correct and you will see the boot end ball socket will snap into the ball on the bellcrank lever (which we see in your photo).

OK, it still wont shift. I believe the problem is that the cable isn't ancd properly and is allowing slop. Can anyone tell me where the metal tab on the boot end of the cable anchors to? Also there is another anchor point higher up on the cable, but I cant figure out where it mounts to. Can anyone help?

There should be two hole in that bracket. The two lower bellhousing the block bolts go through them.

If you remove the tv cable from the car, right above the boot end of the cable there is a silver, teardrop shaped bracket, almost like a tab, with a small hole in it. It is actually part of the cable its self. With the cable pointed up, I cannot see where the heck that would attach to. As it is now when I work the throttle the cable has WAY to much movement, even with it zip tied. I will try to post a pic this evening.
