GT40 engine question (the 5.0, not the supercar) September 05, 2009, 07:15:12 PM What years did the GT40 equipped 5.0's come in Explorers? I'm asking because there are two for sale for parts on the local Kijiji, a '95 and a '96, both for under $500 (each). Were they GT40-headed that early? If so, I'd bet they could be bought for $400, which would be a good price for a pair of GT40 heads and intake... Quote Selected
GT40 engine question (the 5.0, not the supercar) Reply #1 – September 05, 2009, 07:37:42 PM 96 to 2001. Before that there were no v-8 explorers. Also, the early heads (early 96) have the correct spark plug angle, and all emissions capable parts... Quote Selected

They are nice;)Not worth the complications of both installation and maintenance. I got the exact same fuel economy with both types and actual dyno tests show that they're basically the same for actual power. I regret doing P's on this motor where I still have the original '93 Cobra heads sitting on a shelf problem free.At least they forced me to get decent headers. Quote Selected

GT40 engine question (the 5.0, not the supercar) Reply #9 – September 14, 2009, 01:56:33 PM Everyone cries about problems between GT40s and the P's. I'm running Ps on my mustang with BBK unequal shorties with no prolems. The catch is the #7 cylinder. Install the plug before the header, and use a right angle boot. All others have enough to clearence to be used in any traditional matter. Ps burn cleaner anyway, hence those motors have no smog pump. Everyone cringes on this subject but really its no big deal. Ps are easier to find anyway. Quote Selected
GT40 engine question (the 5.0, not the supercar) Reply #10 – September 14, 2009, 04:50:25 PM I have heard that the "P" heads are actually a little better, but it's the spark plug issue and header thing to deal with.I can live with it considering how cheap the engine I'm getting is. Quote Selected
