The 1985's were supposed to come with metal ones, but I have a feeling that somewhere along the line some bean counter figured the plastic ones would cost less. Good for us because they're significantly lighter too. The 1985-86 Cougars were a mish-mash of metal and plastic grilles as a result. Either grille is correct for either model year because there will likely never be a way to prove things otherwise. Quote Selected
