Question about an 88 TC rear sway bar..

Hello,

Apparently my TC was ran for a few years (before i owned it) with the rear sway bar loose, and it actually rounded out the mounting holes ON THE BAR ITSELF.

I can tighten the bolts down until I'm red in the face, but going up driveways at an angle and quick movements around corners make the  thing slip and Bang.

I decided that it is time for a replacement.  Since body roll isn't an issue up front AT ALL, I can go bigger if need be... so here are my questions:

1. What is the diameter of the stock 87-88 TC rear bar? I don't have access to calipers.

2.  I have a buddy who has a rear sway bar off of an early 90's SSP mustang..... Is it larger or at least the same size as the one currently on the car?  I'd like to go with an SN95 bar, but cannot find one by Friday.

I *think* the SSP bar is the same diameter as the Stock V8 fox bar, which is 13/16 I believe..... I haven't been able to find any info on the SSP bars' diameter other than it is supposedly "Heavy Duty"

I would put the 90 SSP bar on.  I bet it is very similar to the TC bar.  Its gotta be better than slip and bang.

Are you sure TC and 5.0 sway bars are the same? The rear sway bar offf my sport was no where near the diameter of the one I took off of a TC in the boneyard.

I grabbed the SSP bar from my Buddie the other day, and while nice, it is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the one on my car, and a bit different design....

I'll post pics later, but my bar is HUGE compared the SSP bar.

My Sport also came with the thicker sway bar front and rear.I have seen a lot of people mistake an LX for a Sport.AT least you have a sway bar now.

....and most of us are not the original owners of these cars.  You never know what's been swapped out until you dig through the entire car.

My first 5.0 Bird (an LX,not a Sport)had a smaller sway bar than my Sport has..The Sport has TC sway bars up front and rear.I would think they are what it was born with.

Any 5.0 T-bird/Cougar had a rear sway bar. They were much smaller than a TC/Sport/XR7 rear sway bar though. The TC/Sport/XR7 rear sway bar is the same one a 5.0 Mustang GT/LX used.
