Really cool Advertisp00get for the 1983 Thunderbird August 16, 2009, 01:41:28 AM I stumbled across this while searching for Coach lamp info. Aren't those TRX style rims in the ad? And weren't those a Cougar-only option?Either way it is a very cool piece of literature. http://www.hokkai-jidosha.co.jp/treasure/pdf/1983_THUNDERBIRD.pdf Quote Selected
Really cool Advertisp00get for the 1983 Thunderbird Reply #1 – August 16, 2009, 02:20:04 AM That's the original factory brochure for 1983.The TRX wheels were optional on the Thunderbird as well. I have a set on my 1984 that are original with the car.I actually have this brochure and all the brochures for 1977-2005 Thunderbirds. 1977 was the first year I started collecting them. I wish I had them all from 1955-76. Quote Selected

Where they show the TC's interior they show a column shifted automatic :hick:Good eye! I never caught that before! I'm guessing they used preproduction prototypes to photograph the interiors. The brochure clearly states that the floor shifter is standard on the Turbo Coupe. Quote Selected

Really cool Advertisp00get for the 1983 Thunderbird Reply #6 – August 16, 2009, 05:55:06 PM TRX wheels were pretty much the norm on the TC's down here. Had to order them if you wanted them on a base Bird. Sure wish I had a decent set to get rid of the alloy junk that came on mine. Quote Selected

I discovered the 4th one is bent and not holding air in the tire. As soon as I can get new tires on my steel wheels I will offer them up for sale if anyone in interested. Quote Selected

Had to have been custom prototypes. My 83 Heritage came with the TRX wheels. There were actually whitewall TRX tires available. This dates back to the 1980-82 Thunderbrids and Cougars with the multi-spoked luxury cast aluminum TRX wheels. They are featured in the 1983 Tbird early brochures but when the Tbird brochure was revised and completely changed mid-year, there was no evidence of them being continued. I am sure by now production of these tires has long since been discontinued with most of them being replaced by blackwalls or changed to conventional tire and wheel sizes and it's not likely you would ever see any again. Really cool Advertisp00get for the 1983 Thunderbird Reply #11 – August 18, 2009, 12:48:06 PM Goodyear made the factory whitewall TRX tires on the 1983 Mustangs. I knew someone once that had them (original owner, low mileage GLX V6 convertible, red/red/white top). I'm not sure if Michelin ever made the whitewall versions but it's possible. Quote Selected
Really cool Advertisp00get for the 1983 Thunderbird Reply #12 – August 18, 2009, 01:35:15 PM Here is a pic for you all of a Michelin whitewall TRX tire. It is for my 80 silver anniversary Bird. I have a full set of 4 which only go on if it goes to a show. Otherwise it rides around on blackwall michelin TRX's. So they did/do exist. They are most certainly not cheap though which helps with there rarity Quote Selected
