My wife wants a t-bird but... August 10, 2009, 08:37:17 PM Well my wife went shoping for my sons birthday presents and fell for a t-bird. Here is a pic Now this is the problem i got 2 loans out right now and no im not over my head and dont want to get that way. 1. i can afford a 3rd loan but then i would be streaching my unemployment during winter layoff so not a viable option. 2.sell my f150 pay off one loan and get her the car and stay where im at finaically right now but without a truck and i dont want that.3.make her wait till income tax time payoff one laon and knock the other down with whats left depending on what i get back. then go get her a 02-05 t-bird then.i will be doing #3 but this is my problem I LOVE TO SPOIL HER ALOT.I find my self want to go to #2 and again give up something of mine for her but she knows this and don't want me to do this cause i give up to much for her and the kids. yes my kids are spoiled and i do pay for that in ways but they still are good kids they just bicker and fight here at home but do there choirs or they dont get spoiled. Now my wife said she will get her a job to make her payments and would be ok with that but i want her to get her GED first. plus there would be the need for a babysitter then and that cost with 3 kids .would take her entire paycheck been there done that.I know that i got things pretty well figured out but would still like to here others opions on this. And that its not a foxbody but its a start right. thanks all in advance Aaron Quote Selected
My wife wants a t-bird but... Reply #1 – August 10, 2009, 08:50:34 PM Lucky you! My wife wants a Hummer H3, and isn't exactly ambitious to go out and get a job to help pay for it. And that means she isn't receptive to me bringing home anything. :(Less than $11,000 doesn't seem too bad. Quote Selected

My wife wants a t-bird but... Reply #4 – August 10, 2009, 10:16:42 PM havi, its 20k on the price on that car i wont have a red car anywayprotouring442,im use to the layoff thing its part of the construction bit thats why i have a what i call emergancy savings set up since i was a teenager that i havent had to touch since my parents opened it when i was a teenager from my dads accendent at work and i got ssi because of it . he spent a year in the hospital and took him 2 years to remember i was born. plus i save up enough funds when i do work for the winter to cover things if unemployment cant. i agree on the GED thing.she is working on it and like i said i spoil her maybe to much nah she deserves it its my fault she droped out of school getting her pregnet at the beganing of her sophmore year. and i know i will get the loan just deciding what way to go bout it. option #3 is the most sound way and i do have the option to combine the 2 cars loans paying off one but it comes at a cost on payment but i finace 3 year loans and they have higher payments i could go 5 or 6 years lower the payment but that cost in the long run on intreste. but no matter what i wont let myself get overdrawn by overstrecting my limits where i couldnt support my family. but again hearing others opions do help me put things in prespective.one mind is limited one perspective ,but more than one mind opens up other avenues of looking at things.(even though some minds tend to argue with each other )thats what makes every opion worth there weight of gold just have to dig for it lol. My wife wants a t-bird but... Reply #5 – August 10, 2009, 10:25:45 PM It becomes an emotional thing when you react to the heat of the passion. At least if you don't get it you know that it is something that you may like to get later. I have learned many times that once I realize what I want, I just have to wait until the time is right to do it. I went through this trying to get a new Mustang. After a couple of failed tried, the time became right and I found the exact car I wanted and everything fell into place. It also happened way sooner than I expected. Quote Selected
My wife wants a t-bird but... Reply #6 – August 10, 2009, 10:37:17 PM I'd wait,that car is way impractical anyways(reason why they didn't sell well)as it's a 2 seater.Why sell a useful truck to get a useless car???? Quote Selected

People with kids and only one vehicle is needed for that. Basically our cars are "impractical" also then as the backseat is useless for anyone for a toddler. I'm all for 2 seaters as they are at least easier to handle, park, keep clean, etc. Many times, they should also get better fuel economy having less weight to lug around (not usually the case though as this car doesn't do too great either). Most people never have a need for 2+ seats, or even the bed of a truck, for most of their transportation. Rent it when you need it - we'd all save money in the end anyways. Only on lunch "get-togethers" and holidays do I see the use of backseats go up. Quote Selected
My wife wants a t-bird but... Reply #8 – August 11, 2009, 08:26:01 AM Dude i've always had 2 door cars with kids and they have never been inpracticle. If you like 2 doors you'll have no problem putting your kids in the back.Hell my ex wife had a 4 door and i found it more difficult to get them in and out vs my 2 door.Anyhow,as you should have read above he has 3 kids,an f150 and a bird.In other words it would be way useless for him to get rid of his newer hauler than too use his old bird for the family car just to get a 2 seater.2 seaters are fine for old people and young people without kids but aren't worth a lick for anyone with a family. My wife wants a t-bird but... Reply #10 – August 11, 2009, 09:15:50 AM Other than road trips, I remember perhaps one time a year where we kids had to cram into a back seat (4 of us at that...). It's different for everyone but I'm thinking that perhaps even his truck is limiting unless he throws the kids in the bed :hick:As you said, he has the fox tbird so if more seats ARE needed, they ARE available.Either way, I can't recommend him getting the new one just due to money reasons. He'll do what he wants to do though. Do we even know the year of the f150 and its overall condition? I assume decent if it would help pay for a new car though...the last thing anyone needs more than space is two older/project vehicles. Quote Selected

I assume decent if it would help pay for a new car though I feel I need to add that today's banks are tough to get loans through. AFAIK, they're quite gunshy after the whole credit bubble thing. I would think that getting a third loan would be difficult to achieve. Also, I would concentrate on paying off the other loans first because things pop up when you least expect them. For example, you get the third loan, and a week later your hot-water-heater quits, or dryer, or two flat tires, etc....The truck's condition will dictate other options, and I've always felt a truck is handy to have, despite friends and neighbors begging you to haul stuff all of the time, lol. When these birds first came out, I liked them a lot, more than the new Stangs, IMO (that thinking has slowly change, though). But seeing who ended up buying them, I am confident they will be well taken care of, and will be for sale in another 10 years or so, at a time when they will be more affordable.Quote from: Seek;286191...the last thing anyone needs more than space is two older/project vehicles. Here's where I have a hard time complying, lol. I have more project vehicles than you can shake a stick at. It is a full time job dealing with them, and can be quite frustrating at times just looking at them sitting in the yard. Quote Selected

Back seats are always full. I would suggest you wait on the t-bird. It's great that you want to spoil yoru wife, but in reality, with the econo,my the way it is, it doesn't make sence to get it just for fun. what if your job ends for some reason? Even with savings you still would have loans out.... and no income. It's ok to say 'no' sometimes. Don't feel bad for doing that. She'll understand. My husband has told me no many times, even when he didn't want to. However, I have always understood even when disappointed. Quote Selected
My wife wants a t-bird but... Reply #14 – August 11, 2009, 03:00:16 PM Buying that car is one hell of a risk. I think the novelty of the car would wear off around September; then you will realize you're making payments on something you really don't want.I vote no. Quote Selected
