Re: pre-87 calipers? Reply #4 – April 12, 2005, 02:58:15 PM so do you think it was swapped? did NO pre-87 TC come with rear discs and an 8.8 w/ quad shocks?if one of those two pins that are supposed to be greased, are rusted, is the caliper bracket-thingy toast, or can it be fixed? sorry for the retarded description, i dunno what they're called Quote Selected
Re: pre-87 calipers? Reply #5 – April 12, 2005, 03:08:03 PM No pre-87 Tbird/Cougar got rear disks. It was swapped. You can try to salvage the caliper bracket. They are pr0ne to doing what you described though. Not sure if the brackets are available separately by themselves if you can't get it cleaned up. Quote Selected

Yep it was swapped for sure.... No discs or 8.8s in TCs till '87...Ford has a pin kit for those... Comes with the pins, boots, grease and some other hardware. I've drilled through the outside of the bracket, then used heat and a large punch to knock out broken off pins. The hole can be resealed with RTV.... Quote Selected
Re: pre-87 calipers? Reply #7 – April 13, 2005, 03:48:41 AM hot I guess I'll head out there and grab em, better than the $85 someone else was wanting for a pair thru a mustang board :eek:could you happen to get or know the part # for that pin set? Quote Selected
Re: pre-87 calipers? Reply #8 – April 13, 2005, 04:35:15 AM You may want to check to see if they are still available, its been 3-4 years since I needed new pins.Got this info over on NATO....The following part numbers are for the rear caliper brackets and pin kits.RIGHT SIDE: Bracket.....F1DZ-2B511-APin Kit.....E7SZ-2B296-ALEFT SIDE: Bracket.....F1DZ-2B512-APin Kit.....E7SZ-2B296-AYou need one pin kit for each side, Pin Kits include the pins, grease, rubber boots, and caliper bolts.also found this info....If you need to replace your rear calipers on a 87-88 rear disc 8.8 you need to go to Autozone and get the loaded calipers. Reg calipers are $70 ea with a $80 core ea.For $107.00 + $90 core you get both calipers and mounting brackets with new slides, and pads ready to bolt on.Here is the part number for the calipers, they are sold in pairs only.1988 Thunderbird turbocoupe#(333936) 13-602627 Loaded calipers Quote Selected
Re: pre-87 calipers? Reply #9 – April 13, 2005, 05:07:32 AM cool thanks a lot! those part #s for the brackets, would they be stamped onto the brackets I was looking at? if so i could just look for that # and confirm that they're the right parts I need. I tried looking at the tag on the pumpkin but it was gone. also, I noticed that there was a hard brake line just sitting there, not connected to anything, and I don't think there were e-brake cables either I think I'll try one last yard to try to find an 87-8 TC just to be sure (and to try to find one w/o rusted up pins)thanks for the info TC50 :ies: Quote Selected
Re: pre-87 calipers? Reply #10 – April 13, 2005, 05:16:56 AM I've never noticed a part number on the brackets... Anyway the F1 part number is a later replacement unit, the orig would have a E7 or maybe E8 number. Quote Selected
