Alternator Bracket Interchange? June 30, 2009, 11:33:27 PM I'm a mechanic with some older Fords so a local high school kid asked if I could do some work on his '88 XR7. One of the problems is the ear for the alternator bracket is busted off. I figured the ones on eBay listed for '79-93 Mustangs would be the same. But before I bought one I asked two of the sellers for the part number and both replied with E7TA-10239-FA. The part number off of the broken '88 bracket is E5AE-10239-BA. I called two different Ford parts departments and both told me that the brackets are NOT the same but they couldn't tell me what was different. They look identical in the pictures. So...can anyone tell me if they'll work or what I'd have to modify to get one to work? Or where I can find the correct bracket? Thanks,Derek Quote Selected
Alternator Bracket Interchange? Reply #2 – July 01, 2009, 02:03:32 AM It will NOT work...Not unless you also use the rest of the Mustang accessories and brackets, as they sit closer to the engine. It's also the reason why the ac eliminator kits do not work on Tbird/Cougar 5.0's... Quote Selected

Alternator Bracket Interchange? Reply #4 – July 01, 2009, 10:29:53 AM Junkyard should have lots of them. The Alt bracket is easy to remove. 5 bolts and the whole thing comes off. 3 Bolts to the head, 1 bolt from the back of the alt to the intake, 1 bolt in the back of the smog pump. Quote Selected
Alternator Bracket Interchange? Reply #5 – July 01, 2009, 10:33:01 AM Are you guys sure the alternator bracket is different??? I know the A/C - P/S brackets are different, but really don't know about the alt... Quote Selected
Alternator Bracket Interchange? Reply #6 – July 01, 2009, 10:44:18 AM if anything you would need a slightly shorter belt to run the mustang bracket.i know that it will put it in the right spot for the belt ot hit it because i ran mustang underdrives on my car for a while. Quote Selected
Alternator Bracket Interchange? Reply #7 – July 01, 2009, 10:49:29 AM Even if it is I cant see how it would interfere with the other brackets. It hangs off the left side of the engine. Maybe those little support bars are different lengths? Maybe it would change the belt length.I can even pull one from the JY for you if you pay part plus ship. Website lists 10.50 +2.00 for entry for the bracket, and Id imagine another 15 or so in shipping. Your friend would save himself that 15 dollars going to a local yard though. It is from a 5.0 right? The small junkyard in my town doesn't have one and the next closest yards are 40+ miles...and they are pretty expensive. Plus I work two jobs AND do mechanic work on the side so unless I charge labor for travel time I'm loosing money myself. I'll PM you details. Thanks! Quote Selected

Alternator Bracket Interchange? Reply #13 – July 02, 2009, 09:03:52 AM Mark VII that use the 100A external regulator alt, have a bracket with wider spacing than the the Bird's and Stangs(I do know that for a fact)... Quote Selected
Alternator Bracket Interchange? Reply #14 – July 02, 2009, 10:26:13 AM I agree with you TurboCoupe50. I found out the hard way that the Mark VII Alt bracket is wider than the Bird's and Stang, after I had already Powdercoated it..argh!So if anyone want's a nicely powdercoated Mark VII Alt bracket...I have one.
