Help me with my Cobra A/C condenser

Posted this at corral but I get much more useful info from here...

I am working on installing a 1997 Cobra's condenser in my '88 but have run into a small problem getting it to mount. There doesn't appear to be much to modify on the bottom mounts without going all out custom so I'm curious what the two "cap" looking things at the top of the condenser are and how thick. If I could grind it down 1/8", I would have enough clearance for the condenser to fit under the radiator support.

This is what they look like. I assume they are just solid mounting spots and could be ground down as far as I need? Anyone know?

Also, this doesn't seem to be capable of being installed with the stock overflow tank. Should I just try using a Mustang overflow or something custom? Maybe just built brackets to shift it to the passenger side a couple inches? Gotta get my efficient A/C and transmission/engine cooling on. New condenser, 3 core aluminum radiator, replacement Mark VIII fan, 30k btu transmission cooler - should run well and apparently DOES all fit with some minor modifications (already made the lower condenser mounts).

So yeah, I got it installed by modifying the lower mounts and making two upper mounts - one a flat piece of aluminum and the other a zigzag due to that side hitting the radiator support sooner. Got the 3 core radiator installed and have just under 5" of clearance between it and the waterpump pulley. The issue - while a Mark VIII fan is supposed to be 4 1/4" trimmed, mine isn't...the fan needs just another TINY amount of room to fit without worrying about it contacting the waterpump pulley, when installed upside down to give it maximum clearance. I so don't want to use a Taurus fan - less cfm for the amperage draw.

Anyone ever modify or seen someone modify the width of the shroud? I may be able to gain an inch on the one side enough to move the fan over to the drivers side far enough to clear...

I cut my radiator core on the top just a bit  for the top mounts to butt against it. I made new bottom mounts using existing bolts holes for the bottom. I thought I had made a thread with pictures, but maybe not...

I don't see how this would work - the tanks can't be modified. The mounts themselves can if I remove the lip on the front and extend the bolt holes BUT the radiator is basically touching the condenser already. If I didn't have A/C or had the clearance to move the condenser forward at all, this wouldn't be a problem.

I took out the top mounts and butted the top of the condenser to the radiator support (not core!) using some rubber as damping.

I've got a thread on the corral, but can't find it at the moment. Wasn't the prettiest setup, but was the first [on the internets]. ;)

My condenser is up against the radiator support. It is slightly more to the drivers side since the passenger has aline that sticks out a couple inches on the passenger and hits the chassis. The drivers side hits about 1//4" from sitting flush with the radiator support - it got a modified bracket rather than the flat aluminum stock I used on the passenger side. I "think" the bottom of the radiator is only like 1/8" away from the chassis too so it can't be pushed back further down below. I will be messing with it again today and will get clarification.

Don't have a good picture of the top setup, but here is an overview.

That picture confuses me - the drivers side looks like the condenser is in front of the radiator support but the passenger side appears behind it?

Okay, I started chopping away at the fan's shroud on the thin side - removed about an inch - fits in there great now. The problem: All my epoxy is apparently bad from sitting for years so I have to wait until tomorrow to buy some. I don't think I should try fiberglass on this. I will say though, it sure took a lot of cutting and grinding to get the shroud perfect. Now it's just sitting in vise grips.

How should I mount the lower portion - through the radiator or inside these "clips" at the bottom of the radiator? I'm not sure what those clips are even for.

I cut out a portion of the radiator support for the top left (left=driver's side) mount.

Ah. I managed to make it all fit though. I'm back on mechanical for now as I don't trust my lower fan mounting for longevity.
