2009 junkyard finds

I'm hoping to hit a few junkyards this summer but I've noticed the last couple of years it seems there have been fewer and fewer 83-88 Tbirds/Cougars to be found.

If you hit a junkyard this summer post here on what you found..or didn't find.

End summer 2008 junkyard run .... nothing.

Last summer was a very hard year for us.S metal was at an all time high, and yards were crushing everything in sight.I'll be calling some new yards today as well.I have a few parts I want, and Jerry (Daminc) needs some love for his Cougar as well.

When I needed a header panel for my cougar, I went to every junk yard in my county (probably 10 or so). I found 4 fox birds TOTAL and one blue max cougar. No 83-86 cougars at all. I called every junk yard that came up on google for columbus, probably 15 to 18 of them, ONE said they had a header panel. I said "how is the rest of the car?" they said, "All I have is a header panel". So I am totally striking out in central ohio. If it wasn't for here and ebay (and my embarassing stash of parts) I would be up the fecal cbuttstuff without any form of manual propulsion.

theres an old ford guy here localy, if you need a ford part, he's probably got it! lol  he has at least 15 fox birds, and a butt load of fox stangs.  He even  has a cobra II I want, but, he wants way too much I think, maybe I'm wrong. lol  $800 for a wrecked cobra II, no interior left but the front seats, center console, and dash. lol  the front clip is wrecked but the rest of the car is ok.

If you like, I can see if he'd be willing to ship parts.

I agree. I needed a better looking sunroof shade and found one in a '88 Turbocoupe on a typical Saturday (picture included). Came back that following Saturday and the car was CRUSHED!!!!

Yea I agree. I'm sure with high s metal prices lots of the older cars got crushed and never made it to the U-Pull yards. Even before the crushing frenzy I noticed less of the 83-86 cars each year. Last year there seemed to be -lots- of 95 to 2000 Taurus and Contours. My son has a Contour so he was happy picking through them. Nothing there for me though.

I'll be amazed if I find any 83-86 stuff in 2009. Time to watch Craigslist and pick them up before they head to the crusher.

Off-Topic but the coolest things I've ever found in the pulling yards have been a GNX and an AMX.  Seems like more and more the places are filling up with econo-cars and minivans though.

Before they started crushing everything a local u-pull-it had a large row of fox T-Birds & Cougars, now there's nothing! I asked a couple months ago if they were going to get more they said they were. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

around here any fox car is hard to find but I did run across 2 fox cougars and 3 newer xr-7's. The 2 fox cougars had most of the parts still intact. Header panel was crushed on one. Body was straight though. $200 a piece for them. I snapped a cell pic of one of them. Both 3.8 cars.

Not one single fox Mustang at any junk yards around here. Most people come to my house or call me for Mustang parts because I have 4 that I have picked up for parts over the years. Plus I got the one I was in my accident with.

There is about 5 or 6 4-eyes and about 8-10 87/88s at the two u-pulls here.  Too bad the heat index is getting into the 100+.  Trying to pull interior parts in direct sun wipes me out pretty quick.

I didn't see a single Fox Bird/Cougar at any yards around here in 08 except for the ones I brought in and, believe me, those don't count. As far as seeing a Fox Mustang, forget about it. Those are like gold. Well, at least the owners seem to think so....

They have several fox early models (82ish to 87ish with the honeycomb bumpers).  I think the rust really layed into the cars up north.  I am willing to fetch/trade some stuff for a good dash.

Went to the local EZ Pull today and although I didn't find lots of goodies like years past, I was surprised there were at least a few 4-eyed TBirds and Cougar to dig through. Unfortunately most of them were already picked pretty hard. I suppose if there was a small item or two you needed you might have found it. Not like a few years ago when I would bring home a bunch of stuff I didn't need! :D

Cougars outscored TBirds this trip. One Cougar LS even had 6 wire wheel covers in the trunk! Most were 3.8L but one or two 5.0L. None of the cars had any decent parts on the front, (bezels, grilles, etc) I found an OK set of outside chrome mirrors for a 87 Cougar but since I wasn't sure if they would fit any of my TBirds I passed on them. Found some good seat belt sleeves there too but what a pain to remove. I didn't feel like getting into ripping out seats.

Just not a lot of good stuff to get excited about. Sure makes me wish I would have pulled that almost perfect brown TBird interior a few years ago!

It looked like a 86 TBird there had decent floors but I had the same place :hick: cut floors for me before and it was an ordeal so I figured no use even thinking about it.

Overcast and cool all day with only a little mist at one point so how bad can a day be walking through a junkyard! :D

So far I have seen two cars in the yard by me:

83 base Cougar no options, beat up, nothing of use for my T-bird.

87 base T-bird no options, beat up, nothing of use for my T-bird.

Basically I see no use in saving non like new parts. The cars were beat up so they had no useful parts for me ;)
