Ride of the month?

I know on a couple other forums I get on they have a "Ride of The Month" I thought maybe it would be a good idea to try and start one here. Would be a good way to sell some calenders and raise some money for the site so we could have cook outs and such. Again just throwing this out there...

So basically on the other sites you get a few people to enter some pics of their car, start a poll and let everyone vote for the one they think is the best looking, then at the end of the month the winners pic gets put on that months cover for the calender.

Would be a cool way to showcase some of the users rides. Maybe even motivate some to make their car look better! lol

Please post what you think about this idea in here. Im sorry if it has already been mentioned but I did a search to find any info on this topic and got nothing so here it is...

I'm just wondering if we have enough regular visitors to do it.  What, about 75-100 regulars?  And I know mine couldn't be in the running.  Figure some people are the same way. Not alot of cars to show after that.

We kinda do that already too.  We do have the calender.

Ain't a bad idea, but we might not be big enough to pull it off.

Are they ever really finished?

The ROTM doesn't have to be a perfect car, it just has to be the one that grabs the most votes.

The last thing we need here is a popularity contest. Honestly.

We have a loose enough board to allow photos in signatures, something a lot of boards turn off because of bandwidth/hosting space issues. So that should be good enough for most people to show their cars off.

In addition, we have a whole dedicated thread where people can post larger photos and information.

And we also allow avatars, which is a third place to put a photo.

AND we have cars in the rotating banner at the top of the page to those that request it.

So yeah...all those places should be quite enough.

Besides, if someone wins...where do we put the photos? Our homepage is the board. Top of the page? We lose our random function.

After going through this over on Four Eyed Pride, I just think our board is not really big enough for this sort of thing. There's a lot more cars and therefore competition over there. We pretty much know everyone's cars here by now.

If this comes to pass and has to be regulated, count me out...

you know..  it'd be cool to have a picture in a calendar of a garage space.  cougar or bird, 4 eyed or 2..  on jackstands with parts sitting ready to be put together.. the stash of sellable parts in the back.. tool boxes.. a bird/cat waiting for an engine?  like daminc's signature. if the car was all bare steel...

This isn't the first time this topic has been brought up, and each time we decide, our board doesn't really do that sort of competition. And as Eric said it, there's plenty of ways to show off your car. Hell if it becomes special enough the thread gets to be a Sticky. That kind of highlight stays for a lot longer than a ride of the month.

Ok you guys win. I guess I should have thought it through more. I do really like the random banners and I would hate to lose them. Maybe one day when the board grows some we can talk about it agian.

Naaaaah,it was actually a very good question.Never feel bad about asking them. This forum,in my own opinion,is really different than any other I've been on.It's more "sit down and join in".There's an occassional small argument, but nothing too serious.Just like family.

But next month,July,my car IS the car of the month.LOL.
