I'm glad to hear it flylear!  It's been a while, but my bird is back to daily driver duties because I sold the Jeep.  Drivinig it again makes me realize how much I need to do.

Transmission question...
Do you have a shift kit or any valve body mods to your tranny?  What torque converter are you running?  Does your tranny shift quick and hard?  How about downshifting?

The 4R70W HAS to be my next mod.  The slushy AOD is killing me!

Sometimes it's best when you can just enjoy them for a bit.

Tranny is stone stock. I had to lower the line pressure from the canned tune to keep it from shifting too hard at lower throttle
settings. I don't have any complaints about how it acts now. I still am using the stock V6 converter that came with the trans.

My mileage has settled to 16-18.5 mpg during my normal driving. It cruises comfortably at 70 on the highway at about 2500 revs.

Been doing that!  It is time to get the TR7 out again, though. Then I can tear into the birdy for heads and to complete the AC stuff.

Good to hear Jim....Im currently sending my block to have the #3 cylinder sleeved.  The guy(somebody I know) I bought the engine from.  Which is a fresh roller 351 rebuild got water into just one cylinder.  Sense everything else is brand new.  Im just going to repair the one hole.  I disassembled the engine on Saturday and taking the short block to be fix tomorrow.  I guess I will be happy if I have the car running by June 1st.  Its killing me waiting for some 5.8 turbo power.

Hey, guys....... I wonder if I could have a cracked upper intake that is seeping coolant??? It would explain why I changed HG and it is EXACTLY the same.

I never saw anything wrong, but might have missed it.

Still scratching my head on this one.

I finally got into the TR7 yesterday. The aux shaft is missing teeth as well as the dummy shaft. Changed dummy shaft gears and pulled a good aux shaft, now have to do the swap today. Just in time for top-down weather!

Just got back from a week long trip. The grass is tall and the garage is a mess. The TR7 still needs torn down enough to get the new aux shaft in. The Tbird is running well, still getting a solid 16-18 mpg on 89 octane. Same mileage as the Avalanche. (Which I just LOVE!)

It's hard to choose which one to drive some days. LOL

The punch list for the bird hasn't changed. I have to fix the turbo drain oil leak and finish off the console trim, plus paint the side moldings. Just haven't taken time out from homey stuff and golf to get it done. Work looks light until the end of June, so i should be making some progress even though my son's graduation party will get in the way for a week or so in mid-June.

I have recently made progress on my big pile of parts....how is your fix it list doing?  Do I remember read, some swap LSX smack?  Too be fair I thought about it(6.0l with heads and cam).  There is all kinds of kits out there for the fox mustang.  It wouldn't be too hard.  My buddy owns a shop where Im doing this big project.....he flatly told me he would not help if I put a GM engine in my XR7.  He is a real big cougar fan. :)

I honestly haven't touched it much. It shows signs of a miss when it first starts, then it clears after a few miles. I think it's because of water in the combustion tract. Gonna pull plugs to verify next week.

As far as the LS goes, I have been perusing the availability and pricing, and it's more money than I thought to go that way. I've been enjoying the new (to me) truck right now. It has the 5.3 engine and it really runs great and gets decent mileage, too.

I will be looking into getting the A/C going in the Tbird if I'm gonna drive it in the summer.

Your miss maybe a coilpack or module?  Im going to be using a dizzy for awhile.  :-P

Not a coilpack or module. If anything it's a plug wire that got cooked. I used old wires. I think it's something else, though. The longer it sits before starting it, the more pr0nounced the initial miss. Once it's started once it's gone for the day. It's just one cylinder, too.

I also need to block off or re-route the hood scoop openings. They dump water right on a coilpack when it rains.

Interesting....that sounds like the exact opposite of a failing module.  I wonder if something is wrong in one of your combustion chambers.....ie cracked, but the crack shrinks up as the engine gets warm????

I am thinking you may be right.... I checked gaskets a while ago and they were fine. Should have looked into the heads better at the time. Oh well.

I am gonna drop off a set of heads soon to get checked and do it again.

On another note, I played more with the tranny tune and it just keeps getting better. I just have to fix an early downshift when climbing a moderate hill at 60-65. The car can handle staying in 4th OD, but shifts down. To do that I'll lower the downshift speed at that load in the software. I'm getting the hang of it now.

I haven't even finished with my swap yet.  I cannot wait to do that one.

I love the 4r70w and the baumannator.

Good luck with the swap.

P.S. what heads?
