And a shot of the #8 line brace.

Ready to mount the fan and run the tranny lines, now. Can also get the trans cooler and PS cooler mounted as well.

I'm thinking I'll delete the fog lights and use the holes for airflow to the coolers. Sound reasonable?

is that just a generic hold down clamp like you buy at the hardware store for pipes and stuff?

geezus your gonna have a bilion coolers under there. Why don't you add an oil cooler too while youre at it?

No, I was actually able to re-work the original clamps by relocating them to new places on the mountings. It looks pretty clean and stock. Supporting the outlets should help keep the tubes from failing from vibration down the road.

I didn't have a better spacer for the top rad mounts so I just used two 3/8" nuts. I drilled out new holes in the shroud and used captive nut plates there. It's all really solid. I'm very pleased with it.

As for coolers, I really want to keep temps down in the tranny since it'll be a daily driver. Heat is the #1 killer of an automatic box. I'll start with the radiator cooler and go into an air cooler before returning into the trans. The Baumann computer has an internal trans temp sensor readout, so I can see if I need more cooling once I get it running.

As you guys know, the Ford PS system can be noisy. I have an old Merkur trans cooler that I'll use to keep the fluid cool to try to make it stay quieter longer between oil changes. The only way I kept my old 'birds quite was to run a little Lucas in the fluid and change it every year or two.

If I end up needing an oil cooler, I'll add it later. I wasn't aware that 5.0's had trouble with oil temps. This is my first one, so maybe I am missing something?

Fan mounting moving along well today. I drilled a couple holes in the top plastic and used some rubber spacers to take up the distance.

The fan shroud hung down about 2" too far past the bottom of the rad, so I made a block plate from some door bottom repair metal I had here. 16" x 2 1/4" . Drilled holes to match the rad and some captive nut plates, and it's a keeper. Gotta pull the fan to glue the foam down permanently, paint the plate and hook up the wiring. The top plastic sticks up too high as well, so I'll trim that down flush with the rad top.

Ran a wire wheel over the IC to knock off the corrosion and gave it a quick, light coat of BBQ black. Glued on the foam to the shroud to protect the radiator from scuffing. Still need to add a thick piece at the top.

Wow. That space is getting cramped lol.

No I wasn't saying the 5.0's had oil cooling problems, just saying thats the only thing left to cool, why not add one while your at it you know? I was kinda joking, but still, I'm a fan of keeping the engine cool too. Definitely can't hurt anything, . And I know what you mean about heat killing and AOD, thats what murdered my last one. After I get this new one in, I'm definitely adding a second in-line fan-cooled cooler.

I may need more cooling. I wouldn't be surprised at all with the extra heat from the turbo induction. I'm going with what I have right now. I'm already over budget and behind schedule this year. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Yes the bay is tightening up for sure. I'm right now going over the order in which I need to assemble everything so I can get to things.

The AOD's can definitely live longer when kept at a lower temperature. With you being in a warmer climate, I think you are wise to add a tranny cooler. Good plan IMHO.

Well, I think I'm going to have to angle the coil bracket down in front to get hood clearance. It looks OK now, but with the plug wires on I fear  it'll be too close. I'll cut a wedge out of the front of the brackets and re-weld them. That should give me what I need. I remember having a problem with plug wires arcing against the hood of the TR7 because they were too close to it.

I'm almost done welding on the PS reservoir brackets. I'd like to get those done so I can paint the intake tube, and finish the FPR lines before I quit for the day.

PS reservoir. Used a section of 87 'bird hose with a nice bend in it. Should do the job.

Dressed the brackets with a file, painted the intake tube and FPR bracket. I also sanded, buffed and clear-coated the 5.0L intake badge.

That's all for today!

The inspiration from you and the rest of the gang really helps, thank you!

To revised do list as of today:

1. mount trans cooler and PS cooler
2. bend and install trans lines
3. install radiator hoses and IC hoses
4. mount Baumann CPU
5. attach trans harness and shift cable at trans
6. blow out/clean fuel lines, install tank
7. put new yoke on driveshaft, check u-joints and install
8. install heater and dash
9.  finish up last of the engine compartment wiring
10.  finish up battery cabling
11. grind turbo housing to clock it properly
12. install turbo oil lines
13. bolt on alternator and put on fan belt
14. blow out brake lines, install master cylinder and fresh fluid
15. Bolt on exhaust (minus catalytic converter)

At that point I should be about ready to load software, fill trans and engine with fluids, hook up the battery, and try to start it for the first time. Once I have a runner I can get on to stage 2.

1. re-wire headlight circuit with relays under dash
2. install remote door lock electronics
3. mount GPS antenna
4. install carpc hardware and DC power regulators
5. install speakers and amp
6. install HD AM/FM radio

Oh boy, oh boy.  It is getting exciting!  Hopefully you can carve out some evenings this week to make progress on your to do list.

I wish I lived closer - more hands make light work.  Plus I could pick up on a few tips since I'm doing a similar build.  I hope to get started next month.

I'm chipping away. I've finished big projects before, and I feel like I am over the hump on this one. the only fab work left is to work out the turbo drain and AC lines. Definitely not a problem to get done.

Ya it's too bad you aren't closer. The last time my neighbor was over was before his 3rd kid was born. Family takes precedent, and I respect him for keeping his priorities in line. Still, it's more fun to share. That's why this list is so important to me.

Anyway, when you get going on yours I'll be glad to help any way I can.
