No Carlisle for me it looks like....

Cat Jam -- Cancelled  :(
Carlisle -- Still on, but most likely without me :(

Here's why:

As some of you know, The 5r55s auto trans in the S197 has the vent tube routed so that of it DOES vent it will make a mess all over the inspection plate and the front bellhousing in situations where the car is driven hard or a tune is put in the car that raises transmission line pressure. Usually when this happens, it'll burp a few times, find the happy spot and never do it again.

I went through this last summer after the JDM tune was downloaded into my car.

It happened a couple of weeks ago on that really warm Sunday too. 3 or 4 drops after driving around for 3 hours in 90* heat.

Last night on the way back from a weekly cruise in I got some wetness too. Considering I live slightly more than 2 miles away, it was 60*, and I went straight home I figured there might be a problem. Bigger problem -- it left a trail in the street and my driveway, a drop every 3 feet or so. Wiped everything down Let it sit. Wet again an hour later. Wiped down again. Wet this morning when I woke up. It keeps showing up in the same spot. Off to the left side through a bolt on the inspection plate/bellhousing cover and not through the bottom weep hole which I find a little odd.

I was scheduled for a group track rental TODAY with a few friends and had to give up the spot as no one can watch my daughter this afternoon.  I guess that turned out to be a blessing.

I disconnected the vent tube and let it hang.  If the issue is just venting it'll go on the ground, if it's my converter or front pump, it'll show up in the same spot.  Guess I'll ordere a hardened input shaft as well if I gotta pull it apart.  I'm off for the test drive now.  Wish me luck....

That sucks. It could be because you're making too much power. Give me your Mustang and I'll fix it so it doesn't make too much power, just enough ;)

The estimate is around 450-460 at the crank from the dyno 's.

Drove it for an hour.  A little wet, but could be residual; I doubt it though.  NOTHING from the vent tube.  I'm guessing front pump seal.  If these  transmissions had a dipstick I'd just keep her full and drive it.  With these "sealed" (read -- we don't want you to tamper with it) transmissions I don't feel safe driving 180 miles one way not knowing just where the fluid level is.  I can fill it through the vent overflow can that I have ready to install, but I still can't check it....

It's weird.  MUCH less fluid today after a hot long drive.  No dripping, just wetness.

The 2 mile drive yesterday caused a trail up the street and driveway.  I DON'T get it....

Now I have 2 broke cars....Gotta get the Cougar done.  Gotta work 4 days first.

The wet part is weird. Perhaps you have a slow leak? Or maybe it's wet because it's low on fluid?

You know you could just take the Whipple off and give it to me so you don't hurt the Mustang any more. I'm sure my T-bird would like it ;)

Motor likes it fine, just not 100% on the seal :hick:
....Now TODAY while it sits, it's dry....Wiped it down about an hour after the drive and nothing's come back...

UGH!

I need to get this thing on a lift tomorrow just so I know hat I'm gonna have to deal with.

WTF? I this a common problem with the 2005 up auto GT's when they have power adders?

Yeah, however it usually gives later than this...

Like I said keepin my fingers crossed that it was residual from a vent.  Gonna dive it to work REAL gently and see what happens.

Man that sucks!  Hope you get it figured out.  What did I miss on the Cougar?  I didn't realize it was broke down??

What did I miss on the Cougar?

I took a perfect running car that I drove on a fairly regular basis that was pretty healthy performance-wise and decided it needed more so I pulled the TFS cam/springs for custom :hick:

It's been slow going getting it back together....I got sidetracked yesterday....Had to open the pool and clean out the shed.  I did it while the wife was out so I could throw out a whole bunch of stuff we don't need, but she makes me keep every year.  Someone came by last night and took about half of it before the garbage men came.

Didn't take the Mustang to work.  They changed my assignment last minute and there's certain places I refuse to take that car.  Last night's assignment was one of them.  Gonna drive her gently now while I go to where the Cougar is to pick up the old pushrods and box them up for flipnbird!

So you have no provisions for checking tranny fluid?

If so..WTF was the engineers thinking...? :punchballs:

good luck with it

Ford's reasoning -- or at least what they SAY is that there were issues with moisture from water finding it's way into the 4r70w and ruining the internal clutch packs so they opted for a "sealed" transmission.  I say s.  That's more due to the Mercon V than any dipstick IMHO.

Interestingly enough the Explorer 6 speed auto known as the 6R60 has a sort of dipstick.  It DOES NOT use Mercon V..........

Moisture my ass. The thing that worries me about it being dry now is that it could just be that the lower fluid level cant push out. Do you have any warranty left? I am assuming no since you didnt mention it yet.

I really hope it turns out ok for you. Expensive repair if it decides to go on you.
