T-bird got hit............. May 15, 2009, 06:04:52 PM The 95 NOT the 88 thank god:DI was driving on a side street near my house today and I didn't have a stop sign at the intersection I was at. A guy who had the stop sign blew it and I T-boned him at about 20mph:mad:. It was all his fault since he blew the stop sign but man did I screw up his car when I hit it. He was driving a 94 Geo Prizm (ie the Chevy Corolla) which was a bit rusty. It smashed in both doors, the rocker, and the quarter panel. As for my T-bird the bumper cover and bumper fell of with nary a scratch. The bumper support is bent a bit on the driver's side and the turn signal is screwed. Other wise no damage to the hood, radiator support, or fenders. I still have the bumper cover and bumper as well. Now the fun part. This yahoo has one of those shiznitty little insurance companies for people who can't afford insurance (I have Allstate) and it's going to be hell trying to get his insurance company to fix the T-bird. Since I still have all the parts for the T-bird he knocked off the body shop I know said they could straighten out the bumper support and reinstall the bumper and cover for $176. Through the insurance (because by law they have to use new parts) it would cost $1,576 . Trying to get that much money from this guys insurance is unlikely so I think I'm just going to pay the $176 and fix the car. If this guy tries going after me through the insurance he's getting a $1,576 bill....... Quote Selected

T-bird got hit............. Reply #2 – May 15, 2009, 06:47:12 PM Is it an Illinois state law that requires them to use new parts? I've never heard of that before. Every insurance company I've ever been with has never had an issue with using used/reconditioned parts. I've even requested that they use them once. Quote Selected

T-bird got hit............. Reply #7 – May 15, 2009, 11:15:25 PM I should have made it clearer but you can use used parts on a car. If the repair was done through the insurance they would have to replace the metal bumper bar instead of just pulling it out. When insurance work is doen they are not allowed to reuse components that were damaged in the collision. If I pay for it out of pocket it's no biggie though :hick:The Geo driver is fine. I hit him on the passenger side and he was the only person in the car. It was a 20 mph collision.I'm going to call this guys insurace on Monday and see what's up. I'd rather have his insurance company pay for it after all it was his fault. If they agree to pay for it I'll probably just get it fixed for $176 and keep the rest. It all depends on how much of a PITA it is to deal with these guys.At this point I'm just thankful it was a slow speed (20 mph) collision and no one got hurt, although if I was driving the 88 I'm pretty sure that guy might have been injured........by me Quote Selected

T-bird got hit............. Reply #11 – May 16, 2009, 10:52:26 AM Glad your ok dude and i know where your coming from. A few years back my first 85 got rearended while i was cruising the strip and the guy was going like 60 in a 25. Buckled both rear quarters, destroyed bumper cover and support and smashed bothe tails. Then the prick had enough balls to try and run( we got his plate number). He hit me hard enough to shove it across 3 lanes of traffic. The insurance company paid me like 1500 and mine let me keep the car without buying it back. Now if that would have been the 85 i drive now, i'd be in jail for manslaughter cuz in my area mines like the ONLY tbird around for the 4 eyes=] Quote Selected

I probably have more parts to sell to you. lol.You got parts for a 95? :hick: Amazinly the bumper cover is reuseable. The clips jut ripped out and all the holes for them are intact. It's a got a minor scuff but that's it. I've looked up info on this guys insurance company and getting them to pay looks like a long drawn out PITA process. I think I'm going to call Allstate today and see if they will go after the insurance company for me. I'm sans a T-bird till this one gets fixed. I now get to DD a 98 Dodge Intrepid. Sweet.....
