Is anyone else having problems finding motor mounts?

I went to every place in town yesterday. NAPA (who is usually pretty good) tried to sell me 5.0L mounts. They did give me a good price on paint, though.

C.B.e also tried to sell me 5.0L mounts, or just a tranny mount, after telling him it's for the 2.3T with a 5-spd. He told me to call a MacPherson guy who owned the Snow Queen. "He's got one of those cars. He can probably help you out." Meaning he's probably got a Cougar from anywhere between 77 and 97. There is one other TC in town, and I've seen the blue-haired lady who owns it.

I even tried Ford, who could only give me part numbers. They can't even order these in, as they just don't seem to exist anymore on their parts lists. He also tried to tell me they only made the TC for two years. 87&88. I set him straight, but I'm not sure if he believed me at all. I told him they even put them in Fairmonts, and he just laughed. "I've never seen one of those." "Yeah? You probably never will, either."

The only ones I've found online so far are these, from Summit. Has anyone had any luck with these, or does every person on here but me have Chuck's poly units?:hick:

If you are talking about the turbo motor I am pretty sure there is no real confirmation that any turbo Mont was ever made. I'll probably get flamed for that but this is just something I have learned.

I wish I'd known you were looking for mounts, I could have shown you a pair of Chuck's so you could make your decision based on seeing them in person. I'd definitely recommend 'em

...but yeah, I think you'll find stock type replacements hard to come by.

I have seen the turbo Fairmont ads online before. I've never seen one in person before, but I'm sure if Ford advertised it, it was built. Here's one for sale on Craigslist.

I would buy them if he's got any left. I'll PM him. I thought he was making limited quantities every so often.

The '86-'88 does use mounts unique to those years... Fairmonts, Stangs & even LSC Lincolns all use a similar mount, same as the earlier Birds/Cougs... Now, I've swapped the passenger side 2.3 mount from a '87 TC into the driver side of a '86 5.0 Bird, fit with no issues... Well maybe one, factory mounts had a locating pin that made them RH/LH specific... Saw the pin off flush and they become universal, same as the aftermarket's I've seen with no pin... I've never tried to swap the small LH TC mount to a 5.0 car, but really don't have much doubt it can be done... So if TC mounts swap to a 5.0, whats to prevent the opposite??? Now the good news, from what I can find out, the '89 to ??? 3.8 Birds/Cougs use a insulator that also fits the '86-'88 5.0 cars...

Still if you can get a set from Chuck, they'll be the last set you ever need...

Do you need the mounts or just the rubber insulator? I was able to easily get the rubber insulator when I did my engine about 2 years ago. From what I remember they were the same part as the one for MN-12s. Infact the insulator on my 95 looks virtually the same as the one on my 88.

I'm going to get the whole mount. That's good info, Tom. I'm going to see if the guys at turbotbird know if both are universal. If so, I can easily pick those up here in Antigonish. No shipping required.

Just get Chucks mounts. They are a well made stout piece that you will never have to worry about breaking or wearing out like the ola original ones. I'm glad I did.

I have to say that I wasn't 100% positive but from my reading (American Car Encyclopedia) was that the ad had been brought out but there was no proof that any such car existed. Now if in fact that car IS a true Fairmont TURBO from factory it would be HUGE! I'm sure he'd be the one guy with the only surviving Fairmont turbo. That would be something I would DEFINITELY hold on to. Looks like a spitting image of the car from the ad too.

The built quite a few turbo Fairmonts and Mustangs, problem was they were junk... No doubt a few Stangs left(5000 or so Indy pace cars had them), but the Fairmonts are no doubt quite rare...

Too bad he molested it and yanked the motor for a V8 (didn't notice it before.)

Good luck finding new mounts from any part store. They haven't been made for quite some time. Your best bet really is to buy Chucks mounts. I had a set in my TC's and loved em. Have a set in my 5.0 car right now.

I've seen 3 turbo Fairmonts. All of them were in the junkyard.

the mounts i bought were like that, it was impossible for me to obtain the proper ft/lbs torque with them like that while bolted on the motor with the exhaust mannies still there.
something to consider for you guys who dont have garages or bench clamps:punchballs:

Funny When I saw this post I thought I was going to be the cool new guy on the block and give some information no one had before..... turns out every one knows Chuck lol. They really are great parts, I have a set for my 5.0 tbird swap but I haven't put them in yet.

Mustang Gt turbos from 83 and 84 are known to exist. I unfortuneatly had to pass up an 84 t-top turbo gt about 4 months ago. Still don't know what happened to it. Even the anniversay GT-350 cars had it as an option.
