Are you running two carbs???  If you are not then you don't need the 1490 part number.

What transmission are you running?

I had the same problems.  are you running the 2121 intake?  I think the fix is a 400 or 351M throttle bracket.  but I am not sure what bracket i am using it also could be 351w or 85 302. pretty sure it is the 351m 400.

Holley carb was a Ford option on engines in the 70's (later or earlier, too?)  So you probably have a stock 302 w/cast iron intake with EGR.  I have one out in the shed, but if needed, I'll look at it tomorrow.  Not sure about the carb adapter, but I would think it isn't too hard, just hope you have the right piece.

The carb used for four barrel intakes if my book is correct was an Autolite 4300 4V, this carb was used from 1972-up I want to say the carb was labeled an Autolite but was in fact a Holley in disguise.

#1483 for your engine which according to yer pics, looks like it is installed right.  The #1490 is the plate mounted to your engine towards the back holding the cable in place.  According to the performer series owner's manual I have, you should compare the old carb to the new carb for linkages.  Also it says the throttle stud is moveable.  Have ya looked into that at all?  The owners manual shows a pic of the 1483 being put on, but the pic is so small, it's hard to comprehend.  Anyhow, the #1490 plate for 289/302 is what might pull the cable further back on the intake so that the end lines up.  The kickdown might fit over the piece sticking out back towards the carb.

Now you see why I went with carter and holley carbs, lol.

I ended up bolting mine using one bolt to get it as straight as possible.  seems to not bind and doesnt seem to be going anywhere so this is how I am going to do mine unless I come up with something different.  I ended up using the 302 bracket.
