...Actually, the price/condition is kinda helping deliver me from this particular temptation, but if he was asking 1/3 that price and if the car was remotely restorable...

True enough. Even though the T-Bird project is winding down for the year, I've got plenty of other projects in the wings this summer: New work bench in the garage, build a dog run, build a roof over the patio, and possibly build a new shed (hard to believe two sheds and a garage still aren't enough)...

I know what its like to not be able to find one of these cars. Just wait it out. They only made like 300,000 a year for 8 years.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

$800 for a 84 Turbo coupe with the TRX wheels that doesn't sound all that bad to me. Yeah we could ask for it to be prefect, but for a 4 eyed early model turbo coupe that doesn't sound to bad. Rare find for a 83-88 T-bird  early model turbo coupe. Yeah its not a 65 mustang but I bet someone is willing to pay that little for it. Even if its just a mustang guy just gutting it for the parts!

It's not $800, it's $1000. If the TRX tires are worn out or cracked the TRX wheels are useless. That doesn't bother me, as I've got some 10-holes (currently on my 88) and snowflakes (soon gonna be on the 88). The rust, broken header panel, and the fact it doesn't run doesn't help its case. I can't see Mustang guys snapping it up, either, since it's got small brakes, a 7.5" rear, and a non-running, high-mileage 2.3t...

I'll keep an eye on it. If he drops the price by 66% or so I'd have to give it a look...

Who said a mustang or I guess a ranger  guy would get it for the drive train and brakes. If you really knew anything about a turbo coupe they would garb it up and rip out what makes it a turbo coupe and toss the rest!

I am well aware of what makes a Turbo Coupe, being a person who has myself "grabbed what makes it a Turbo Coupe and tossed the rest", when I stripped that '87 TC parts car, sold off the engine and tranny, and kept the interior, rear end, brakes, and removable body parts. As I've pointed out, the engine in this particular one does not run. The ad says it's a sending unit, but that's the ad. Until I hear it run the engine's a paperweight, as far as I'm concerned. An 83-86 TC without an engine is just a plain old Thunderbird with fancy seats and bumper cover, but with a 7.5" rear and y brakes. A RUSTY 83-86 TC with a non-running engine has even less going for it. Even if the engine really does run it's got 220,000 km on it, and likely has not run in quite some time. At $1k this car is no gold mine, and there is no great lineup of Mustang or Ranger guys around here looking for thousand-dollar high mileage, non-running 2.3 turbomotors for swaps (and if there was, they'd probably be lining up for the more powerful and more common 87-88 engines).

87-88 more common and from the factory more power but those 86 and older has a garret T-3 a much larger turbo than the 87/88 and then if your up on your 2.3t motor stuff the inline older intake has some advantages over the newer 87-88 square style intake.  So the real 87-88tc parts you want for your 2.3T the ECU and the upgraded E6 exhaust manifold. I also think you are looking over the fact that 84 was only the 2nd year of the turbo coupe and they kinda had a bad rap until 86 or so. The older you go in turbo coupes the less of them there were to start with. I'm just asking that you not wright it off so easily. Yeah you've got your standards and other have there own. If you wouldn't give that for it fine all is well. But stop and think about it a min. Your on a Fox T-bird/ cougar forum. Were supposed to be the guys that love these cars. So please stop lowering the so call worth of a car just because you have lots of parts and have your share of them! What if it turns out that someone else buys it and joins this forum! They hop  on here and look around and find us the Guru's so to speak trashing the very same ride they just spent $1000.00 for! Would that make you wanna join and show off your prized new toy! I know I would be thinking  look at these guys talking about the car I just bought telling me I got ripped off and that it is a pile ! Just think about it just because it isn't worth that to you doesn't mean that is the real value of it. One mans trash is another mans treasure!

Sorry for the rant just kinda got my mind to running circles!

So your "mod" was a downgrade?

I am not lowering the car's value just because I've got a stash of parts, indeed, if the car looked like it was even remotely worth what is being asked for it, it'd be sitting in my driveway this very moment. Four-eye birds simply do not come for sale often around here, and four-eye TC's even less so. It was with great disappointment after seeing the ad title that I saw pictures of the thing and had my balloon popped. I'm lowering the car's value because it is just not that valuable. I know what Nova Scotia rust does to a neglected 25 year old car, and there is plenty of neglect evidenced in those photos. This car would be a daminc-esque restoration project, and I'm just not willing to get into that kind of work, especially with a $1k admission price. Hell, the minor restoration I did on my '88 is well into its third year.

And as the owner of this forum, I am well aware its purpose. I love these cars like not many do, and the TC in question is actually kind of a "holy grail" of sorts for me. I own an 88, but my heart will always be with the four-eye, and being a 5-speed TC is icing on the cake. Hell, if it had vent windows I'd probably dream about it at night. Even after all the work I've done to my 88 (body & paint work, TC rear, CHE susp, t5 swap, etc), I'd trade it for a mint 83-86 TC or 5.0 car in a heartbeat, even if it were stock.

That being said, I know a basket case when I see one, and a grand is a lot to pay for a basket case. If somebody asked me advice on it, I'd tell them to stay away, at that price. If it were really, REALLY cheap I'd think about saving it, as a 5-speed TC would make a nice DD here in the world of (still) $4/gallon gas, or even to keep under a tarp until I could find a nice 4-eye and use it as a donor. As it stands, the asking price has eliminated my desire to even look at it, and even really cheap I'd have to have a good long look underneath before I pulled the trigger and got myself into an unrepairable mess.

Thats what it had when I got it. But a mod is a mod so I listed it.  Also Still $4/gal up there I feel for you! I got it for $1.87/gal on the way home tonight! With that price diff I wonder how much shipping would be and if that would make it any cheaper for you  it  man I know that $4/gal pain and I fell for you!
