door speaker wiring Reply #4 – April 04, 2009, 11:41:56 PM There's a big terminal and a little terminal on the speaker so the wiring isn't crossed. 85TC w/ premium sound and light group. Quote Selected
door speaker wiring Reply #5 – April 05, 2009, 02:11:54 AM i can see what your saying,, speakers will work both ways but having them hooked up backwards effects all three ranges.I can look at mine and let you know. Evtm doesnt show polarity. Quote Selected
door speaker wiring Reply #6 – April 05, 2009, 11:48:30 AM I thought the speakers were kept in phase by connectors from the amplifier to the speakers that could only be plugged in one way. Is this a non-stock speaker? Are the connectors on the speaker labeled + and - ?To phase the speakers you will have to have physical access to the other speakers. Some people can do it by playing something with a lot of base. Then by laying their finger tips lightly on the speaker cones they can tell if they are moving in and out together.Or for sensory deprived people like me, rig up a flashlight battery so you can momentarily apply the voltage across the speakers. Do this at the amplifier end of the harness with it disconnected from the amplifier. The speaker cones should all move in the same direction.I believe the polarity that makes the cones move out is called plus. Quote Selected
door speaker wiring Reply #7 – April 05, 2009, 08:36:17 PM It's my understanding that sound quality depends on which way the speaker is wired. Normally I'd just connect the speaker and test but it appears that the goobers at car toys didn't do such good job installing the head unit. I'd like to wire it correctly, reassemble the door, and deal with the other wiring later. Quote Selected

This will spoil the sound quality. If you only have one speaker, it doesn't matter how it's wired. But when you have more that one speaker they all must be "in phase" with one another.Looking at page 167 of the 85 EVTM, when you say the "green wire", do you mean the black/light green dot wire on the speakers? And for "white wire" do you mean the black/white hash wire?If so can you look at one of the other speakers to see how it is hooked up? door speaker wiring Reply #9 – April 05, 2009, 11:51:59 PM with one speaker backwards from the other it will cancel the sound waves to an extent. sorry i cannot provide input for the premium sound as my harness was all hacked up even the antenna wire. Quote Selected
door speaker wiring Reply #10 – April 06, 2009, 01:06:39 AM The wires are definitely dark green w/ orange stripe, and white w/ light green stripe (not black stripe as previously mentioned), two wires of each color going to the plug. Quote Selected

Is the wiring harness stock 85?Is the door from a different year car? There are some differences in how these speakers are wired up for the different years. Quote Selected
door speaker wiring Reply #12 – April 06, 2009, 08:08:06 PM it may be a pain... but if you have dash speakers hook up the speaker one way and listen to it to try and hear if it sounds in sync with the dash speaker of the same side or such. or even look at that speaker wiring itself. Quote Selected
door speaker wiring Reply #13 – April 06, 2009, 08:43:17 PM Well, the yahoos that installed the head unit apparently didn't do it 'properly', IMO. No sound from the dash or door units. Can't speak to whether or not the door has been replaced or modified as this is the 'new' one, but I'm pretty sure the wiring is correct for that year. I'll check the other one when I get a chance.
