pedals help!

Hey everyone! I need your help. I'm getting ready to do a manual transmission swap on my '85 Cougar and I'm digging around Ebay for parts. I found an auction with the clutch pedals and I want to make sure this is exactly what I need to do the job correctly. Will this clutch assembly bolt in my car?? The second link is the cable. Will that cable work with this clutch setup? Thanks for you help! I'm ready to get my Cougar back on the road! :)

Yes it will, the Mustang pedal box works fine. I think the 4 cyl stang and v8 stang pedals are different a bit but it will work just fine.

The pedals should work though it looks like the stock adjuster is missing (think you realize that already). I would advise against the UPR cable. I would only use an OEM cable even though they are pricey. Maximum Motorsports uses the OEM cable. Id get one of those and a firewal adjuster.

Since this is the first time I have ever messed with manual, I have no idea what you mean by the "stock adjuster" or "firewall adjuster." HELP! Do you think it'll still be okay to buy these pedals??

You cannot use the 87-88 turbo coupe pedals. Read the coolcats write up. It spells it out for you and even has pictures.

yep, turbo coupe ones are a no go for a cable clutch setup. Those cars don't use a cable clutch.
that second set of mustang pedals may or may not have the stock adjuster. i cant see it.

the stock adjuster uses a plastic, knurled quadrant with a spring loaded adjuster on it. It magically adjusts the clutch cable for stretch and wear as well as the clutches wear. The popular thing to do is replace that with an aftermarket firewall mounted manual cable adjuster and aluminum quadrant. Tons of them out there. The oem clutch cable is about the best out there you can get. Most if not all of the knock offs are py and either fail early or work poorly. I wont take the chance on them.

the firewall adjuster mounts on the firewall where the cable goes through. you can turn it in, or out to adjust the cable. You can get adjustable cables instead of this but none of them are OEM. The adjustable cable does the same thing the firewall adjuster does but the adjustment is under the car ath the clutch fork end of the cable rather than at the firewall.

firewall adjuster lets you use a "factory" cable and makes it easier to work with. Supposedly the stock automatic adjusters fail over time by breaking, stripping and what not. as old as some of them out there are, id probablygo right to the firewall adjuster and quadrant with an OEM cable like the kit maximum motorsports sells.

I got mine from a 4 cyl. Stang for super cheap at the boneyard.On the net they seem pretty high to me.Check some yards out and see what you can find.My pedals work great.

Thank you guys so much for your help... Ya know I'm thinking that taking them off at junkyard would be smarter mainly because I can find a set that has everything on the car - cables and all!

How hard are they to take off?? How long to you think it should take incase I decide to go this Saturday morning. Junkyards around here close at noon.

Not bad to remove them.On the salvage car,you don't have to be careful with things in the way.You should be able to do it in about half an hour or so.That's how long it took me for the first time.maybe a little longer if you've never been under the dash.I'd get a new clutch cable and aluminum quadrant.The cable is worth it to buy new,the quadrants can be found pretty cheap on Ebay.Grab the tranny harness too.
