For a nos tailight it looks just a little dirty, and nos is supposed to mean show quality.
What a scam for a guy who found an nos box and an old tailamp.

Hmm. You're right. NOS should mean brand-new, no blemishes, i.e. as if you just got it at the parts counter. Definitely a scam.

N.O.S. does NOT mean show quality.  It means New Old Stock. Most of these parts have been on a dealers shelf for 20 plus years.  Getting moved around, banged into and such has an impact on the parts condition. Case in point, when I played with Oldsmobile, you could still get new front and rear bumpers for the 70-72 Cutlass.  However, most of them were not show quality. You could've gotten a better looking  bumper from one of the companies that refurbished them. That bumper wasn't N.O.S.,  but it was show quality.  The N.O.S. ones were usually somewhat scratched up and a bit dull.
In my opinion, that taillight is awfully dirty for being N.O.S.

Ck his feedback, he had a bit of trouble with a emblem for a 66 also. When I worked for MB we sent all warranty claims back in the Original boxes and if things were sped you ended up with a old piece and a new box. Of course Benz folks are spoiled as you can still order original pieces for old cars, they have a whole dept for just that. Boy that would be nice

I agree 100%. Many times, you will see an ad for an "NOS" part followed by a disclaimer such as "shelf worn". Just because a part hasn't been installed on a car, doesn't mean it's perfect. Some have been shipped from dealer to dealer and get pretty beat up over the years.

I agree 100%, again. NOS does not mean show quality, but it certainly does mean NEW. That light looks pretty "road worn". If you're going to sell something as new, at least hose the dirt off it first. lol.
