A clarification on SN spindles... please

So, I was looking at the a "Manual rack?" thread in this section and followed the link Jason so happily posted :D about 4-5 lug swaps and tie-rod ends and such.  I was looking at the comparison of 94-95 and 96+ spindles and had two questions.  The first is a clarification because the wording on that page is confusing:

"the 1994-95 Mustang spindle moves the ball joint 20mm forward"... "The second style is the 1996-2004 Mustang spindle, which compared to the earlier '94-'95 spindle, has the lower ball joint moved 1mm rearward"...

I'm assuming this is saying the 94/95 moves the balljoint forward 20mm and the 96+ moves it forward only 19mm...?  Just confused because it actually reads more like "the 96+ moves the balljoint rearward 1mm as compared to the fox location" because of the earlier statement "In relation to the standard Fox spindle"

Next, just another clarification...  putting SN brakes on my car moved my front wheels forward 17mm?!?  I'm just surprised that, with as much reading as I've done, I did not know this!

Just how is a spindle going to move a ball joint forward or backwards?  That would be a function of the control arm and the orientation of the mounting points on the K-member.

The spindle can affect the track width as mentioned though.

Looking deeper into it, you have to look @ where that balljoint dimension relates to the wheel center.  If you compare what they came up with for the Fox v SN-95 units, the overall fore/aft difference between the ball joint and wheel center is more to the tune of a couple mm.

Chuck, the text is referring to the tie-rod balljoint in regards to steering.

'87 - '93 GT:
PT6 (1638, 662, 418)
PT9 (1640, 735, 482)
PT12 (1511, 671, 461)

And for the ‘94-95 GT:

PT6 (1618, 689, 417)
PT9 (1623, 758, 482)
PT12 (1491, 712, 465)

And for the ‘96+ GT:

PT6 (1619, 684, 415)
PT9 (1624, 758, 482)
PT12 (1491, 712, 437)

These are based on the following conventions:

X = 2000 (Front of dash) (Rearward is positive)
Y = 0 (Vehicle centerline)
Z = 700 (Top of frame rail) (Upward is positive)

Point #6 (Lower Ball Joint)
Point #9 (Wheel Center)
Point #14 (TRO Center)

This is what I'm referring to.

Your wheels weren't moved forward 17mm.... Compare the numbers in red from each spindle and subtract #6 from #9.

Well, I have no idea what those numbers mean or which ones refer to Fox parts and which refer to SN parts but I'll believe you.  :)  But nonetheless, I feel the text here is a bit confusing.

The text is confusing, but the end result is that the wheel center to ball joint fore/aft change is minimal.

thanks Chuck.  And thanks for the link, Jeremy!  Lots of good info there, I didn't realize there was so much to adjust...  Lots to learn, I really want to learn more about suspension geometry now!!
