Agreed. Like when the rear passenger side wheel bearing almost completely failed on my family this weekend. The new style one piece hub bearings may last longer than the old spindle style, but when they fail, the wheel completely leaves the vehicle. Not to mention that they cost $228 with tax, and the old style, like we have on our foxes, might cost $40 and are much easier to get out. So you have to pack them. Big deal. The $180 in my pocket makes me ok with that.

Sounds like you are looking to us to give you a reason to buy something else. If thats the case you're barking up the wrong tree, we will always say your thunderbird/cougar is always a better idea because we love them. If you want out, get out its that simple, but know you are always welcome on here. At some point you are going to wish you had that car again. Trust me.

I've got the opposite attitude of the OP. I'm actually really starting to feel the love for my car, and am actually starting to feel really optimistic about driving it this summer. It hasn't left the property since October 2006. Since then I've done the bodywork and paint (including TC front clip & hood), swapped out the red base interior for a customized black TC interior, installed the 3.55 TC rear, CHE rear control arms, all new shocks & struts, subframe connectors, 11" front brakes, and did the T5 conversion. The HO upgrade should be done by the end of April, just about the time the roads should be free of salt.

I have not driven the car since doing any of this work and am really looking forward to it. The only problem is it's been so long since I drove it I won't really have a baseline to compare for all of the mods...

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Well it feels good to drive it. I just wish I could find a turbo that wouldn't blow up on me. Gonna try an HX35 I guess.
