column shift linkage adjustment March 08, 2009, 02:08:21 PM What is the best way to adjust the column shift linkage in an AOD? I took apart the linkage only from the bracket that bolts to the frame, and when i went to set it back, it is shifting backwards. I set it manually in nuetral, with both linkage and column shifter in position, but when i go to shift the car it shifts from park to nuetral without moving the linkage, like its in drive. When i check underneath the car, the linkage is still in park. I dont understand this . It has got to be one of the most annoying things ive ever messed with. Has anybody got any ideas or ever had this happen to you? Quote Selected
column shift linkage adjustment Reply #1 – March 08, 2009, 02:56:18 PM It should be adjustable at the trans. Or you got a whole lot of play in the linkage somewhere. Quote Selected

QuoteAlso make sure you didn't accidentally reverse the bracket when it was apart. The bracket wasnt all the way apart, just the two bolts on the frame.QuoteOr you got a whole lot of play in the linkage somewhere.Yea, that seems to be the problem. I had it right after i put on my headers/h-pipe, then it sounded like it was leaking at the collector so i took the linkage apart, tightened the on the headers, and started with the linkage and now hit this snag. I do have a lot of play - the bushings are all worn out. Guess its times for some newbies. Quote Selected
