Repainting Trim

My trim is starting to look pretty rough and I was wondering what y'all use to repaint it. I noticed the stickied thread and the recommendation to check out 50resto.com and the Mustang-spec trim paint, would this be a close match to stock? My car being a 20th, I'm also missing the gold piece from the trim all the way around. Any recommendations? I thought I might try to mask it off and try some gold paint on that area, but I'm thinking it may not turn out looking very good.
I'm also looking for some ideas for painting the trunk rack, rear window trim, and the door trim on the driver's side. To make it easier to figure out what I'm talking about I took a few pictures and circled the aforementioned areas.

Poor car wasn't taken very good care of before I got ahold of it, and to think I'm only the second owner.

When I repainted my trim I took everything off the car and cleaned them. All except the trim on the doors etc. That was masked off and painted. As for the paint, I used trim paint from Auto Zone. Came out pretty nice.  If you do take off the other trim parts and trunk rack, be careful, as the can be brittle or brake easy. Don't rush it.

I was planning on keeping the trim on the car and using masking tape, rather than trying to pull it off and possibly breaking it. I've got to find some trim for the drivers side though, what do you recommend I attach it with? It looks like double sided tape was used to keep it on originally.

the adhesive is some really good two sided tape like you mentioned. I suggest leaving the trim on the car but if you take it off, make sure your trim is sitting in the sun making it good and hot while you put it on.  Use high quality two sided tape, granted you have been able to take off the old stuff with a putty knife and heat gun.

For the center part of your trim, that is also stuck on there and comes off.  That can be had at a local parts place in rolls.  Peel your old off and add new.  Another option is to purchase gold 1/2''electrical tape (3m brand only due to best UV rating/heat/cold rating).  When you find the gold tape,, just unroll it along your cleaned up center trim and stick it on working it into the upper / lower crack with a credit card.  It will look uniform and last a long time.  Thats how I got my red center on my trim for the white coug below.

I also own a 20th i love.

For the black trim, use a color called "black mat", it is brush on and will dry flat looking just like the original.  use the black matt brush on paint for your trim as well.

the trunk parts come right off and can be painted as well with the same color.  Keep the black uniform by adding it to your metal and plastic trim.

For masking off, get the painters masking tape (lime green looking).  It will peel off easy and does not leave sticky left overs behind.  Make sure to cover up the paint job as you know the wind will carry spots of paint through the air and dot your paint.

had another idea,
get you a can of the cleaner used for pvc pipe,,not the clue, just the cleaner.

use a qtip and wipe it on the existing center trim.  I'll bet its gold underneath.

Thanks for all of the advice. The peeling trim around the rear glass seems to be chrome-looking underneath; paint is going to have a hard time sticking to that isn't it? I need to pick up some sandpaper for the headlights also, those need to be resealed too.
I've still got to buy trim for the drivers side and either fix or replace the driver's side fender - careless drivers never watch for your car in the parking lot. The car could do with a new paint job as well, but I'm not going to get that done until I can afford to get it done right. Hmm, that puts into perspective how much work this car needs and I haven't even listed half the things I need to do. One thing at a time I guess....

When i picked up my 20th, i made a list, took care of most of them pretty quick. there are a couple outstanding but no rush.

on the metal trim, wire wheel them to the point where the paint is not coming off anymore.  next paint with black matt.  its an odd oil base that dries pretty quick.  thats how i did mine for the front trim.  I figured if it held up on the front, the rest of the metal trim would hold up better.

oh, use those disposeable foam brushes so it goes on even smoother.

you need mudflaps, saves your paint well worth it if you can find the "cougar" mud flaps like mine that have a cat emblem in the center.
