New car for my g/f

My girlfriend has been looking for a new vehicle. Right now she has a 92 S10 Blazer, enough said. I went to pick up my brother from school when a saw a 87/88 thunderbird for sale. I stopped and looked at it, its black with riken wheels. The body is in good shape, no major dents or signs of rust. The interior is gray and looks to be in good shape too.  Im not sure what engine is in it (V6 or V8) or how many miles are on it. The price on the sign is $1500 obo. Im going back tomorrow to take some pics and find out more info.

talk em down to $1250 or less. See if you can get a history on the car. Like how many miles are on it and what all is wrong.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I didnt have much time to stop and look at the car today. I took a few pics. The car isnt in as good shape as I thought. I did a half walk around yesterday and missed the front bumper. Other than the bumper and a little stain on the seat the car is pretty soild. The underside doesnt look bad. Im gonna try to talk the guy down to $800-900ish.

I would say that judging by your description and these pics, 8-900 is fair. That is assuming the car runs, drives and shifts ok and the strut towers and all are in good shape.

Oh, if you don't meet the seller before you look at the car again, you can tell if it's an 8 or 6 from the vin.
Look at the 8th digit. F=5.0, 3or4=3.8
Of course it could be a swap, but really, who does that...

Unless it's a swapped engine, it has the 3.8...it has chrome door handles and window trim. Decent lookin' car though.

It has the 5.0 in it with around 170k miles. Also the guy told me it has a posi rear end. I tried talking the guy down but he is set on getting $1500 for it.

that would be called an LX with the v-8 option. Some one must have repainted it otherwise it shouldn't have body colored trim.

chrome handles, window/body trim related to a 3.8 package?

since when?
My stock 88 has all the above black and chrome body trim on two tone silver and a 5.0... factory stock little old lady car when I bought it.
not all v8 were sports

I would double check to see if its a posi. I found when looking at t-birds when I wanted one, many people said it was, but they weren't. I'm not sure, I think "sports" might have. Regardless, don't take his word on that one, lol.
