Lincoln rear end spec?

What is the width of a 1987 Lincoln Town Car rear end compared to a 88 Cougar XR7? Both are 8.8
Will backplates from the Lincoln bolt on to the Cougar?
Thanks
Kenny

Town Car rear would be way wider than Cougar. Dunno about the backing plates - they would bolt onto the axle housing, I'm sure, but I don't know if you'd ever find drums that would work with 'em.

from out side of the drum to out side drum is 60 1/2 on my both of mine!
remember it easier to fix them, than to find them after they been crushed.

i parted out ( very low mileage ,less than 75k)  2Lincoln Town  this summer just for the engine/tranny/rear .
i'm installing  one the 8.8 in my  casper 82 cougar XR7 and the other going in to my merc zephyer.
i'm leaving the complete brake system  that came on the 8.8.Lincoln Town rear end intack(5 lug and bigger brakes).
all i'm doing is removing the lower control arm bracket  that was for the Lincoln Town(smaller weight) and installing the wider ones from a stang in the correct spot for the fox body.

I went today and pulled some drums off of a 90 lin(they looked  alittle narrower than the drums from the 88 town car)I got the back plates from the 88 town car as well.I am gonna put them on the cougar xr7 in the morning and get some info.I did find a linc mk 7about 88 I guess(didnt look at it -they were closing),Its got a 8.8 with disc brake set up.I am trying to stay around 60-62in length.I measured the 88 town car from outside drum to outside and came up with almost 63in.what year do you have so I can look farther on the 60 1/2?thanks kenny.

Okiedokie, dont listen to me on this one.I thought the 4 holes would line up on the back plates(I didnt know they were diff in size)so,I am going back to get my ranger ones back.they were small but, better than nothing.I tried

Update,I went today and purchased the 89 linc mk 7 rear end and with disc for 40.00.I also went through and found (2) sets of 3.55 Locker gears but, they are 28 spline out of grand mark.I did measure the 2 rear ends and realized that they is a 2 in diff in the 88 cougar xr7 with disc and the 89 link mrk 7.I pulled drums from a 90 ranger due to being a little wider than the others.the back holes on the back plate matched up to both rear ends.I kept both the wide ones and narrow.
