20th anny grille

Just wondering, if anybody knows, if the 20th anny cougars all came with the same color grilles  - the red cabernet, or were some of them gold?

It sounds like its supposed to be red slats, the same red as the body....and the cougar symbol and outer border are chrome.

Well i had another 20th a few years ago (before i really knew what i had) and im almost positive it was gold - it may have been just the cougar emblem but im really not sure. Anyway, someone  cut me off pulling into a 7-11 in FLA and i T - boned him at 50 mph, totaled the whole front end, went back the next day and found the grille laying in a ditch, so i kept it, or at least thought i did, now im having a little argument with someone on the color lol just wondering if it was an option, thanks everyone

I might be wrong but I think gold was possible. Gold Package? I could be totally wrong but I have heard that on here before. Now if that person was right I guess we'll see

The grille was painted Cabernet Red to match the body; the slats were never any other color for a 20th (see the image below).

The ring *should* have been silver on nearly all the 20ths. The only ones that I know to be gold from the factory were the NY Auto Show cars (and they also had gold cat heads). It wasn't uncommon back then to have people come into dealerships and gold plate emblems...the same plating process could easily be applied to the grille ring and the cat head in the grille. So it may have left the dealership as gold, but it wasn't necessarily from the factory like that. Still, I personally like the gold because it's distinctive and fits the rest of the emblems on the car.

The cat heads in the grille were never listed in any of the literature as being gold...I do not have a part number for a gold one, either, only the standard silver emblem (E7WY-8213-A). I have seen both silver and gold emblems; it is possible that at some point Ford made the gold cat head standard and possibly did not publish the fact. That information has always been unclear and we have to defer to 20ths owners for any substantive data on that. Maybe Brent (BCA) has other info as well.

Here is a list of all standard items for a 20th Anniversary Cougar:

I looked at that right after I posted. I bet it was both Eric. Dealer and Ford not writing anything down about it
