I'm considering selling a car on ebay but don't know how it works. I was told if it doesn't sell I don't pay a fee. If the car does sell how much of a fee is there? Can I put a reserve on it, have it not sell and still not have to pay a fee?

You're FAR better off going with Craigslist, Kijiji (both free) or Auto Trader

yes i have sold some stuff one EBAY.
 my ebayer name is rancheronut.
when listing a car/truck/whatever. they charge you fee  just like your local new papers do. the only different is you local paper is that- local. where ebay is "world wide".
 if it dont sell, yes you will still pay there fee but if it dont sell and you relist it and then it sells. ebay normal don't charge you a relisting free.

as for ebay or Craigslist, Kijiji  or Auto Trader.    you still have low lifes that say they will pay and don't!  on my ebay when i have nonpayer ,i just relist it .  really how hard is that? when the nonpayer bid $200.00 on it.i told ebay of nonpayment and i relisted ,then it sold for$400.00. so tell me how the nonpayer hurt me???????
 i have been a ebayer from 2001 , i only had two bad buyers and only one off those was a nonpayer.the other one was a guy that didn't understand " this is for usa and canada sales only"

It kills me that nobody has bought your car yet man. i wish i could fit it in my life. craigslist isnt too bad with the ecception that its a pain sometimes to list it in several areas. auto trader and even the want advertiser are all at least worth a try before listing it on evilbay.

A couple people on the forum were "interested" but they just lowballed me. I'm sorry if I don't feel it is my responsibility to lower my price to cover peoples travel expenses.

. So I risk a negative feedback and get my listing fees refunded: A whopping thirty-five cents. eBay keeps the $9. This is why I made all of my listings "Immediate payment required".

All of this is moot, though, because it is for non-vehicle listings. Vehicle listings are even worse. Apparently eBay has changed from when I was considering selling my Volvo, but not much of a  change: Now the listing is free, but the first bid will cost you $125, whether or not the bidder actually follows through with the deal.

). Yes, Craigslist and Auto Trader can be annoying, with the fraudsters and people promising they'll be there in an hour to buy the car, only to never show up. The difference is these people are only an annoyance.
Another thing to remember: eBay may be global, but unless you've got a one-of-three '63 Tempest Super Duty or something, most people are not going to travel more than a few hundred miles to buy a car. Yes, somebody in Bangor, ME can see listings in Portland, OR, but is that person going to travel across the continent? Not likely.

It would have gone in the want ad, but I heard they went out of buisness. I read an article in my local paper about it.

ok,so i take it you HAVEN'T SOLD a car on ebay!  WELL I have sold just your average cars/ trucks on ebay
THE 1973 ranchero. it SOLD to someone in FL.
THE 1980 fairmount  that was  SOLD to someone in detroit.
THE 1974VW bug  that was  SOLD to someone in maine.
THE 1973 mustang that  SOLD to some one in lived in TX but was station in IRAQ.
the 1986 mercy capri 5.0 that sold to some one in canada.
these was just your average  street cars, that where daily drivers . that look ok 20 feet away,not show cars. 
I LIVE IN MONTANA.  so i figure they went over 1700 miles away from me, and i didn't didn't pay a dime for there shipping.
try that with you so called Craigslist, Kijiji (both free) or Auto Trader.
 last time i tried one of them. i had to WAIT around  house on my day off most of a day for people calling up saying there where on there way. i don't know about your world but waisted time is money for me and i glady pay your so called $125 fee and have some way to make sure that person follow through. than sit for people that call  to tell you there on there way and  be no show and have no way at all to do anything about it.

or better yet! we had one guy that called and it took him over hour to drive across town(which is only 5 miles ). then took it for a test drive for 5-1/2 hours (which i had to wait around for him to come back)!    when he came back, i ask what happen ? all he said "oh i didn't know there was a test limit." after he left, i check the truck out. now the nice clean box has dents/trash/marks in it. couple days later a  friend called  and was mad at me for not letting him know i was moving. when he seen my truck across town full of stuff plus had a 30 foot trailer hook to it full of moving stuff.
i even had alot of drunks call about the ad  around 2 am, saying they would buy the rig if i gave them a ride home.

how about the one i had the 60 yrs old man call me at 5 am about a car for his grand daughter.
 on ebay if somebody in Bangor, ME looking at my ride ,they don't waste your time to test drive or call late at night or very early in the morning!

as for the $125.00 The Successful Listing Fees on the First Four Listings in a 12-month period  and starting of Fifth Listing in a 12-month period that price gos down!!!! 

is  fine with me because it saves me money instead of the old way, i was charge a listing free plus additional fee charged after the vehicle sells at a percentage of what they went for.
 so  that means for people like me that don't sell junk and the more higher the sales price gos  UP ! the more ebay got paid. just  by charging me Successful Listing Fee  of $125 would have
save me about $195.00 on the bug,
save me $92.00 on the ranchero,
save me$110.00 on the fairmont,
AS FOR THE MUSTANG ,it would have save me over $300.00.

well i had only two things  of all the stuff i sold on ebay ,not sell after i relisted it and the last one cost me $80.00. for the same thing in my local new paper by the owner of the product, listed it and cost him $93.00 just to have the local's look at it and half of my day  waiting around for no shows.....

well i like getting credit to relist, than paying the full amount to relist in your local stuff!!!!!

sure abay not  perfect and is NOT for every one ! there doing a service for you and want to be paid for. just like you would like to be paid  a pay check for what you do at work, right?
sure most people don't go past the city limits to buy a car/ truck/what-ever but for the people that do know what there looking for  and don't mind paying a better price and figure out way to get it back to them, IT WORTH IT..
 i have bought cars and truck on ebay TOO from state FL/IN/CA . there was one, i got from CA . i flew my son and i there. pick up the rig and drove it back home. along the way ,we stop see LEGO land/ walt disney/ see world/ PLUS a train ride in WA and a tower in seattle,WA .  i paid $2500.00 for that mercey capri.cost me $2,000 to drive it back in two week time. i had the  capri apprise when i got back  and i apprise out at $5990.00.  there was a local one  like mine in a use car lot sold for $6400.00.
 the way i look at it is .i have a better chance selling on ebay than Craigslist, Kijiji or Auto Trader and i willing to pay extra money to make  more money on the sale. i look at the glass(ebay) as half full instead of have empty, i guess.

as for neg on feed back on ebay. sorry they have change that and are trying to make it better for the seller plus you can give bad feed back on nonpaying ebayer to help other ebayer know about them. try that with you local stuff
