I think the secret is to have an old computer that plays it so slow it's easy to keep up, and I only played a few times...

It also seems to be rigged. Several times, I'm staggering along, and he yells "ANYBODY HOME???" and crashes too fast to catch, and a few times the game immediately starts with him yodeling, no chance to do anything. I think I just got lucky that time with a non-sabotaged 100m game.
