...On the ground at gun point....

Ill start out saying I'm still heated, I don't mean kind of disrespect or anything of that nature toward police officers. I respect you for what you do.

That being said I did deal with one that was not the most understanding in anyway.

I was speeding (i am wrong for that) (late for work) 74-75 in a 60. I know for sure because I looked as I slammed the brakes.  I already knew he was coming so I started to get over and I was getting off there anyways. I slowed down and started to get over but it is a merge exit that leads to another highway so it wasn't too easy to get over, especially since everyone was freaking out over the lights.  I got over but it was kind of late to stop on the ramp (very busy this time of night and dangerous in to drive in let alone for him to walk in  plus it is a turn. So I rolled 40-45 all the way to the first exit, my exit, and got off and pointed out the window while I was at the light to the lot I was going to.  So I pull in and as he is walking up i tell him I am sorry for taking so long but I didn't want to pull over in such a dangerous and busy. He didn't give a shiznit and started going off. I was nice and respectful this whole time. I was thinking out everything before speaking so nothing came across wrong. Didn't matter. Give him my license and he is still telling me that I was wrong to continue. Honestly I was not running or anything, doing 40 I don't think I would have got far, and I was honestly looking out for the both of us. People around here do not yield to stalled or emergency vehicles that are on the side of the road even though it is the law. So I give him my insurance even though he didn't ask and was walking away and he handed it right back. So I wait... and wait... It seemed longer than it was I'm sure. And he comes back ad tell me I have a 78 in a 60 and a failure to yield to an emergency vehicle because I pulled off the highway. I wasn't doing 78 I know for sure and I don't get what he was so pissed about it though. We both knew it was a VERY dangerous place to stop. I explained to him again, at this point the ticket was printed(yes printed like a receipt) and I told him that this was me to him aside from the ticket I wanted him to know why as a person but he was so far gone he couldn't talk to me as a person. He told me you can think whatever you want but it will cost you in the long run... WTF does that have to me trying to explain to him what I was trying to do.  He tells me, your luck I didn't rip you out of the car and throw you on the ground... at gun point. Didn't matter what I said he was close-minded as they come. Ended that and he handed me my stuff and started walking away. I asked if there was anything for me to sign and he kept walking away and then I said can I see the(radar) gun and he kept walking and I asked don't I have the right to see the (radar) gun? He flipped again! What law school do you go to? Who told you that? I told him everything I heard says I can see it. So I asked him your telling me I don't have the right to see it? and he told me no i was misinformed. Left it at that. Came to work and I am calming down.

I understand I was wrong but he didn't need to handle it like that and be such an ass. /END RANT/

man i know how that is ive had a similar thing happen to me not to long ago - granted i was drag racing (94 cougar against 35th anniv. stang) he pulled me over and not the stang - but treated me in a similar fashion. Maybe some cops think they are a little bit above the law sometimes and treat civilians like  because they know they can, all respect to them for risking their lives or what not but they arent any different

dude that sucks bad..... speeding is speeding, i dont think 4-5 mph is that big of a deal for him to be off.. he may have just bumped it up a tad just for you not pulling over right away.. You have to think.. if you were a cop and you were pulling over a car full of ppl... and the driver dindnt stop right away, you may be a little scared...He might just be one of those people that covers fear with anger....Besides if he wanted to pull you over in such a bad spot,  it would be his fault...he'll be the one standing dangerously close to speeding trffic...{not to defend him}

Just enjoyin the ride!!!!

Found out this is the same cop that gave one of the girls I work with fiancée' a ticket because he didn't like the way he turned... LOL I was all alone in the car, In a dress shirt and dress pants on my way to work. I totally understand he could be scared but after I explained to him my reasoning he didn't change. Last time I was pulled over (rich area cops) they got pissed I stopped on the road instead of a side street. I cant win for losing!

Well good and bad news. The guy that is dragging the truck deal out was suppose to pay me tonight, didn't. His brother in a county cop. Ticket will be dealt with tomorrow. I am not a speeder really. If I do I do it late on empty roads not that its much better but a little.  Well see how everything turns out tomorrow. I have 2 test tomorrow I couldn't study for until now because I couldn't focus I was so pissed.

humm ,, hard call to make because its the cops shoes i have never stood in.
pulling to a safer area is your right if you do not feel safe.
not too many years ago in the mid 90's, there were ppl dressed as cops pulling people over in CA.  The people were robbed and some were removed from thier car while a partner crook arrived to take the car.

Thats when I had heard it on the news many areas were warning people that if the situation seems odd or you think the marked / unmarked car might be fake, to pull into a public place where the odds of whitnesses is higher and you feel safe.

^^^ All I can say is that's what I've heard too, to pull over where it's safe.

I don't have that right. He told me that it will cost me more in the long run to think that way. I was always told to go to a public place when pulled over. More embarrassing but much safer. I told him I don't know who you are. All I could see where lights. He replied with this isn't the back woods , or a small town in nowhere Mississippi we are in the middle of the suburbs and I'm in a marked car... I don't know about you guys but I cant see the sides of cars when they are right behind me. Anyone can look like a cop in a car. Hell P71 could take his car to Carm and bam there you go.

This is what really killed it. My mom has always said pull over in a public area... I tell her about this and she goes Why didn't you pull over. Your suppose to pull over  as soon as the turn on the lights... Wow... Not too happy with myself right now still. I should have just took the points at work and risked it.

I have heard that if you are going to proceed to a public place, slow down (which you did), and turn on your hazards. This is supposed to "alert" the officer that you have the intention to pull over, you just don't feel the area you are in is safe. Thats what I heard anyhow.

WOW! It amazes me that people admit when they do something wrong (on a public message board which also has several police officer members), they get ticketed for it, then they complain about it, while admitting guilt!

Come on!  You were speeding.... he put his lights on to pull you over...it is up to HIM where he wants to stop you. If he wants you to move to a safer place, HE will tell you to do so.
I know because Roger got a ticket not long ago. He was speeding, and he saw the officer's car sitting on the side of the road, he pulled over before the officer even put his lights on because he knew he was busted.
It was a bad area, lot's of traffic, including big trucks, no shoulder on the road, but Roger pulled off as far as he could. When the officer came up to the car, he asked Roger to pull into a little driveway area off of the road so they could both be safe. Roger did as he was asked, no problems.
Officer was very nice about it, even talked to the kids who were in the back seat.

Was it a dangerous place for us to pull over? Yes.
Did the officer know that? Yes.

But he determined whether he wanted us in that spot or not and he told us to move to a safer location.

BTW, asking him to see his gun? WTF? I mean seriously.... where did you come up with that?
If you question whether his radar gun was working at the time, then you can request, when you go to court, to see when it was last regulated and checked for accuracy. NOT when you are sitting in your car getting a ticket.
Maybe your speedometer is off by a few miles per hour. There are many factors that can cause it to happen... different size tires or rims on your car for example.

Don't argue with the officer. He is doing his job. He is trying to ensure that all drivers are obeying the laws and that those who don't will remember to do so next time.

Face it, you were in the wrong all the way around... get over it, pay the ticket and be glad he didn't arrest you for not stopping when you should have.

yes and no. if you seriously question weather or not its a legit officer, you can slow down, put your hazzards on and pull over in a safe area. they used to tell us here to call the dispatch if you have a phone to verrify. that also doesnt mean you not going to piss off the cop and escilate things.

well, pulling over where it was safe to do so was reasonable. not too long ago a dude i went to highschool with was arrested for impersonating a p.o. he had a uniform, badge, gun, brand new inteceptor impressivly outfited like a cop car. even had a laptop set up in it. from the outside you couldnt tell. they were pulling people over, searching their cars for drugs and what ever they could find. i girl i know was pulled over and she called the police when she realised what was going on. its bizar and effed up, but this stuff does happen and it could have been worse.

as for a legit pull over, all it takes is for something earlier that day to have happned to put either party in a shiznitty mood. were all just people. not everybody carrying a badge is going to be fit to do so. you never know whats going on with the other party. in my experiance, remaining calm and keep it to yes sir, no sir. if you were speeding, unless you have a legit excuse dont bother trying to explain anything. dont do anything that might make the cop remember you. your not going to change his mind and usually all your gonna do is piss him off and escilate the situation.

you can tell if you have a decent cop though. sometimes you can joke with them or whatever and then sometimes you can get yourself out of a ticket. generally though, its better too keep the mouth shut. "show me the gun" probably wasnt the best way to go....lol

and then you have the cops that are just giant arse holes.

I can complain just as you are doing. All that needs to be said. I already said I respect them for their job and what they do. Arrest me... Its a sad world when I get arrested for pulling into a safer place. You have your opinion and I have mine.

I was respectful and following my rights. I asked him if I could see it as I was informed that I had that right. I didnt argue with him I told him I understood and explained why. In no way was I rude. In no way did I try and change his mind. I started to get over before he was even behind me. I have heard of that happening enough to not take the chance when I dont have to. We'll see what happens.

im on your side although i am guilty of stopping in really bad places.  never been told to move just get out and stand on the other side of the car. but it is kinda weird he didnt settle down after you tried explaining in a calm manner.  you were calm why didnt he get calm?  i've always seen cops that get calm when you do, seeing as its part of controlling the situation, but i do know the cops that seem to get amped up over nothing.  i think it really comes down to how people handle threatening situations.

sounds like he was a donk and you werent going to get anywhere with him anyway. weather you have the right to see it or not, id have to suspect that most people here would agree that that would come across as provoking and was probably not the best thing to say.
