We got a firetruck November 02, 2008, 09:06:12 AM We (my two brothers and I) recently made the highest bid for a retired 1976 Dodge Custom 300 pumper fire truck. It only has 7000km on it, and our bid was only $1500. It has a 360, and I assume a 3-spd auto. Perfect for the farm, anyway. Other than a dent in the front chrome bumper, I can't see anything wrong with the body, since it saw so little use. I guess there weren't very many fires in Liscolm (my brother Troy lives there and is a volunteer fire fighter). The siren still works too. :hick: It's an air horn, like you'd hear for an air raid, or mine collapse. The only thing is the horn is hooked up to a floor switch, just like the high-beam switch three inches to the left. I could see myself hitting the wrong one at night, and blaring an air horn as I bear down on an oncoming car with my high-beams on. We're going to use this for the blueberry fields. The three of us are eventually taking over the farm, and this is the start. We'll use the PTO pump and tank for spraying the fields, and with the tank off we can use the flat deck to haul the berries to the shed, about 5km away. As it is now, my Dad has been renting a brand new truck every summer for harvest. That eats up a lot of profits that are already pretty thin, when you hire a sprayer, mower, harvester, etc. Unless you have your own equipment, it's hard to get anywhere with this industry.So, pictures. If it had been 4WD I'd probably have gone for it though. I was told it went for under $2500, a very good buy considering the shape it was in and the drivetrain (454, 4-speed, under 20k miles) Quote Selected

He's not a Mopar guy, but he always seems to be driving one. He used to have an old '74 Tradesman 200 converted with a bed, full carpet with wood panelling walls, and a sink/fridge/wine rack. The front end looked identical to this truck.And I'm sure you can stretch that out to be one of the only mid 70's ANYTHING without rust in Nova Scotia. Classics just don't live here. Knowing how the GM guys are on the chevy truck boards, we'd probably make a few people cry by using this unmolested cab for spraying chemicals and beating around farm roads. Quote Selected

A friend is getting him to keep his splitter for the winter, so he has lots of time to get it done. Then again, we had our first snowfall yesterday. I have all mine cut, but none of it split yet either. I'm glad the price of oil is going down, because we're going to have to fill that up too, with all of these surprise cold snaps. It's amazing that you can wait until two or three weeks past the time you should have it done, just waiting for a splitter, when you can remember it all being done by axe. Quote Selected

I would see a mound of wood to split,, only hoping it will actually ship. The sombeyoch got here and now it sits with nothing to do. I litterally used it two afternoons on 4 1/2 chords.I can do about a face chord per evening using the remaining daylight summer hours of the weekdays after work is done ,,ie- three or so + hours. Instead, i piddled around on it and got a bunch done in spurts but mainly I waited for the splitter.As for your truck,, I can think of many uses. A Landini with a good sized bucket, and a small Ford with a Snowblower. ;) We're good, as far as clearing snow goes. Since the Fire Dept. won't fill pools anymore (they don't want the liability of a pool bursting and someone getting hurt), we could always step in and offer people a fill for $50-75. Who knows. Even if it only gets used for what we bought it for, it'll be money well spent.And we got the splitter yesterday. I can pick at it over the next week now. Quote Selected
