problems never end... no start issue October 09, 2008, 07:58:28 PM Well i was just backing out my driveway in my 86 cougar 3.8. when i put it in drive it died... figured no big deal it ran kinda rough anyhow. fired back up and put it in drive and moved bout 15 feet and it started to act like random miss/out of gas type deal.. and died.. now it wont fire back up. I put a screw driver in the coil wire and checked for spark... none. fuel pressure is good (squirts out the valve in the cfi unit) i am thinking it could be the TFI module? anyone have other idea's? i need to hunt around for the 88 remote tfi module i have and wire it in i guess. any help is appreciated... i got til tomorrow to figure it out cause i gotta work. would be nice to drive not walk 30 miles round trip. Hook your test light between the TACH (green wire) side of the coil and ground. If it blinks while cranking the TFI and coil are good. If it stays on solid the TFI is not working. The TFI and/or the Hall emitter are bad.If it doesn't light at all, hook the light to the BATT (red wire) side of the coil. If it lights there the TFI or coil is bad.If no light on the BATT side of the coil the ignition switch is bad. Quote Selected

problems never end... no start issue Reply #7 – October 10, 2008, 05:11:44 PM SPOUT(Spark out) pulse from the EEC to the TFI.Follow the yellow/lg wire back from the TFI. You will come to either an in-line one wire connector or a block with a jumper on it.Unplug the connector or pull the jumper. This will take the EEC out of the picture. This is what you normaly do to set the base timing. Quote Selected
