I've got an old magazine with a road test of one. Apparently it was quite slow. Still, I'd love to find one for parts and swap the diesel into a four-eye Bird or Coug for a daily driver - it'd prolly get 40+ MPG, and with the lighter 'Bird it would have to be a bit quicker. Who knows, maybe you could even crank up the boost for more power :hick: Certainly couldn't be any slower than my Saturn SL1 daily driver...

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Yeah, but you've got a big ol' V8, not a tiny little inline 6 oil burner. The BMW engine only made about the same power as an SEFI 3.8 (only 130 horses, but about 250lb-ft torque). That car would need 3.73's to get out of its own way...

As per my first post, I'd love to have that car for a donor/swap into a much lighter four-eye 'Bird...

as i recall, back when i "just had to have a mkvii, many of them were considered junk when the air suspension went out.  I had considered buying one back in 94 but back then, the cost of the air ride stuff exceeded the purchase price of the car. He wanted two grand with 120kmiles.

The '84-'85 Mark VII's with the 2.4 diesel engine only came with a 4-speed automatic.

The engine choices were a 5.0 L V8 and an ultra-rare (200-500 made) 2.4 L Straight-6 diesel. The diesel was a BMW design with a turbocharger. Rumors have it that a 5-speed manual transmission was bolted to at least 1 of these diesels. It was available on all trim levels until the engine was dropped after 1985.

I know theres a documented one somewere....

You guys think that's rare?

I know of an early '80s 4-door Lincoln Continental with the Bimmer diesel mill at a junkyard. It's all perfectly intact, so I assume it had some mechanical failure and the old dude who owned it gave it to the yard.
