Well your perception of time begins to slow down once you're at the threshold of the black hole...so technically "mad" could be around, at least in your mind, for what seems like infinity. Meanwhile, back in real time, you're being stretched like spaghetti into the center of the black hole as your atoms lose their cohesion.

It's not a quick death.

We were having a discussion here at work about how fast it would expand (or "absorb".) Would you see the earth's horizon (literal, not event horizon) appear to distort to a point as it was slowly sucking in the earth, or would it happen so fast that you would not have time to think about it? My boss thinks "too fast to think about" - I'm not so sure.

Well their reasoning was quite out there. They were claiming that little black holes were going to somehow magically excape the Super Collider then sink to the center of the earth and suck up all the liquid hot m-a-g-m-a therefore cooling the world and killing us all..... science wizards.
