Adjustable Strut Comparison Chart

I was obsessing about which strut to get for street/strip use. I kept hearing that the Strange strut was for "drag racing", but after looking at the comparision of the popular struts on the market, I can see why so many people are happy with them.

Anyway, here is the most cluttered chart on the planet: :hick:

Interesting chart ;)

How/Where did you come accross this if I may ask?
Is this model specefic to a certain vehicle/frame?

This is data I got from various sources and had to convert to common units. Koni has a presentation on their Sport strut which is where I got that and the Tokico Illumina & Bilstein data.

These are all Fox/SN95 Mustang struts.

What bout the KYB GR-2 adjustable struits and shocks and could I put a set of Fox or SN-95 mustang coil over kit from Koni on my Turbo Coupe would it be a dirrect fit or would I have to do some moding.

Neither are my original 140K mi TC Tokicos...

Koni did include an OEM Mustang strut in their testing - they also included the KYB AGX - look here.

I didn't include the KYB AGX since there was nearly universal agreement that they only lasted for a couple of years before wearing out & that KYB was generally not a quality piece. The only non-adjustable strut I included was the Bilstein - this was mostly a comparision of popular adjustable struts.

Interesting chart. I'm assuming that the Koni "red" shock is what they are referring to as the "Koni Special"?

Yes, "red", "yellow" and "blue" are just nicknames people have come up with for certain struts. Koni Sport is yellow, Koni Special is red and Tokico makes the "blue" strut.

I had the yellow Koni Sports on the street and loved them. Worked good RR too.

Yep, the Koni Sports are one stiff mother of a strut - great for road racing from what I read.

I ended up getting the Strange adjustables and they work nicely with the Mach1 (600#) springs @ the "5" setting on the street (no more rubbing in front) and "2" at the track (yes, the tires do rub the fender lip on the softer setting when I hit a corner hard). I got a 1.56 60' the first time at the track with the new struts, my best 60' to date, so I have to say they work well at the track too.

Sounds like a good setup, whats the part number on them? There isn't alot of unused strut sticking out of the c/c plate with them is there? I hated how my stock struts looked after I lowered the car and had to use the spacers to eat up the extra strut shaft.

I have mach1 springs as well, and will be running on the street and track.

Strange '87 - '93 Fox strut is P/N S6001EM see here - Summit STR-S6001EM

I installed new stock-style strut mounts and there is a good 1/2" of strut threads on top of the nut after I tightened the nut 'till the cup bottomed onto the larger diameter of the shaft. With CC plates, I'm sure there'll be lots of extra - not sure how this is avoidable if using a strut designed to be used with a stock mount.

I also used the SN95 Strange adjustable shocks in the rear (S6004LM) - Summit STR-S6004LM (with Chucks Mustang shock adapter - worked like a charm.) I set them @ "5" on passenger side rear, "4" on drivers side rear to counteract body roll a bit. I swear the car was on the verge of lifting the front equally when I launched - it launched straight with no twist or roll, though I also have CHE arms in the rear and I welded Competition engineering toque-box plates which mount over the box. I slotted the plates so they would interlock into the subframe connectors and welded every seam including the stock seams. Car is rigid as heck now and dumping the clutch at 5900 RPM confirmed that :D
